  1. Whoa Europe’s like a giant pizza. So many slices but everyone argues about the toppings

  2. This is stupid. The terms overlap.

Most of northern Europe is in western Europe. Finland is arguable if it’s east or west. I say east.

Central Europe spans west, south and east Europe.

„Like Germany being very split between central and western europe“

Because it’s both. At least the southern part of Germany is absolutely central Europe. And you can’t argue that Germany isn’t a Western European country.

The problem with this kind of categorization is that it implies that these regions are mutually exclusive. I think any reasonable person would consider Spain to be both Western Europe and Southern Europe.

What is the third color in Portugal? Its too low resolution for me to see.

Portugal is western but we’re more southern. Our cousins are the Spanish and Italians, not the English and French. I don’t normally acknowledge the existence of a central Europe. I always see Europe in terms of east/west or north/south.

Will you do a global version? Interested to see how people see world regions.

If Macedonia is southern europe then Bulgaria, Albania, and most of the balkans should be too

It’s interesting that even though Turkey is marked as “not Europe” most people actually put it in one of the European categories. They just couldn’t agree which one.

  9. It is good to see the responses be posted on here, even if they dont realky make sence but that just is because europe cant properly be divided based on artifical borders.

Damn who put Poland in Western Europe. It’s the most eastoid country ever

Portugal, the only place that can be in southern, western and eastern europe at the same time

Why would anyone designate Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania as Eastern European? It’s quite evident that such people know jack shit about them and are mentally stuck in the Cold War…

  13. Could you mix the colors from the survey so that you can see a gradient of colors?

  14. montenegro, albania and bosnia and herzegovina should really be southern if croatia and macedonia are

  15. Holy fuck this topic is sooo overdiscussed. People just don’t realize Europe can be split up geographically and politically. Some country can be be politically eastern while geographically central, etc etc.

  16. Interesting how Eastern Europe still seems to be very much based on cold war alignments. Hence there’s a pretty sharp divide, and Greece is not included.

Western Europe doesn’t seem quite so strongly influenced.

I think Southern Europe is slightly influenced by holiday destination popularity.

  17. I expected Hungary to be central tbh

also I feel like a Balkan category might have been in order

    otherwise this is amazing

  18. knee-deep in your survey, takes time and concentration, still fun enough to continue tomorrow

How does Turkey have more votes for Central Europe than Portugal does for Eastern Europe? The „Portugal is Eastern Europe“ joke is absolutely everywhere, I would’ve expected it to even be voted into that category, unless the survey prohibited obvious joke answers – but it seems it hasn’t.

Croatia southern Europe but Montenegro , Albania and Serbia to the south are Eastern Europe ? Laughable

Surprised Western Europe and not southern Europe is most popular option for Portugal while southern Europe and not Eastern Europe is most popular option for Croatia and Macedonia

  22. No_Guitar7903 on

Who the fuck would call France, Belgium and the Netherlands „central“ Europe lmao

whenever people classify Croatia as Eastern Europe it feels mildly xenophobic
