6 hours of warnings against a blockade, seems they were testing the waters on if the us would do anything?
Ofcourse they’re going to call it that. Is anyone surprised?
In contrast to Unarmed Piracy like the Huthis? Are just asking nicely?
Normal Hamas / Hizbollah FAFO. The heaviest armed navy in the world tells you to stop, you stop. Or you don’t and deal with your choices
Pirates don’t usually give you 6 hours to leave. Regardless of Whether or not you agree with the us facts are they’re there and have stated they will shoot at unauthorised ships
Leaving a literal U.S. Navy warship on ‚read‘ for six straight hours is a wildly bold survival strategy. At that point, you’ve rapidly accelerated into the ‚find out‘ portion of the chart.
They know about attacking merchant ships – quality assessment
Iran could really set a good example by not attacking any ships outside their 12mi zone
Iran is taking big risks, Trump is likely willing to completely cripple Iran by destroying their critical infrastructure which would set them back decades in addition to permanently destabilizing the country indefinitely (aka the Lybian style), just because they don’t want to make reasonable compromises.
Iran is mistaken that Trump is willing to cede some grounds because of the rising oil price. Thats not a guarantee. US oil producers have taken market share from the gulf countries and Trump isnt running for a reelection, so he’s not likely to suffer in any capasity. Yes it will impact the midterms and what he can do for the remaining term as president, but this also something that distracts from the Epstein files.
In a war its fully legal (and standard procedure for basically all of human history) for the belligerent parties to seize each others ships by force (including civilan vessels).
Its also fully legal to blockade each others ports. e.g.
Whats not legal though (in general) is to seize or attack ships of neutral nations or close off international waterways to neutral ships.
So irans complaints here are hilarious.
It’s only cool when we do it
I mean armed piracy sounds way catchier than war, which is what I call this situation.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t Iran been targeting tankers this whole time?
Good. The terrorist regime in Iran was gleefully attacking vessels and bragging about it on social media, and now they are finally getting a taste of their own medicine.
So what Iran is doing is… Not piracy?
Lol iran getting a taste of their own medicine
Maybe they shouldn’t shoot at ships from neutral countries
Isn’t most piracy armed?
Do they not know what a blockade is?
I’m sorry but why is this happening? Why did the U.S. get into this?
…I feel like they almost had a point up until the 6 hours part.
At that point it’s just stupid.
Iran’s calling it piracy after six hours of ignoring warnings, that’s rich
Closing the strait to begin with and threatening to shoot any ships crossing the strait from the start is and was piracy. International waters means they don’t have the right to tell people they can come and go. Plus Iran fired on Indian vessels hours before this even happened. Fucking idiots the lot of them
This is down intentionally just to stall the ceasefire talks. They are hoping they can use this to stall without getting the boom boom.
Why is every headline on the war I see on Reddit from Iran’s perspective? Iran calls this and Iran says that seems to be the only thing being pushed to the fronting page. Curious….
Maybe they shouldn’t be shaking down other ships trying to pass through international waters. Both parties are in the wrong.
Uh, Iran attacked an Indian tanker a day before. Is that not piracy?
US Navy is getting pretty good at firing on unarmed ships. So macho.
I wonder what the cargo was that the crew was willing to run a blockade and be fired upon.
Just an FYI, you don’t have to side with Iran just because you oppose Trump.
So Trump says it isnt a war. We arent at war. So what do you call it when a county seizes another countries ship when they aren’t at war?
