Ich bin Amerikaner und brauche Hilfe bei der Identifizierung dieses Charakters. Ich besaß dieses Buch und habe es verlegt, bevor ich es lesen konnte. Ich würde es gerne wieder kaufen. Wer ist dieser Charakter und was ist das Buch?

There are also 2 very good movies – dobry vojak Švejk and Poslusne hlasim, which pretty much respect the book altough not everything in the book is set in the movies.

If you are interested in the character and czech culture, i strongly recomend you the book and the movies, it has its unique kind of strange humor which me personally and many other czech ppl find really great. The movies are also part of every New year TV programme (i cant think of Christmas/new year time without those movies).
Even today some people say “švejkovat” which basically means “playing dumb”, you cant really say if the character is extremely smart or extremly stupid.
