    1. News snippet:
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a video address released Sunday that Canada’s strong economic ties to the United States were once a strength but are now a weakness that must be corrected.

In the 10-minute address, Carney spoke about his government’s efforts to strengthen the Canadian economy by attracting new investments and signing trade deals with other countries.

“The world is more dangerous and divided,” Carney said. “The U.S. has fundamentally changed its approach to trade, raising its tariffs to levels last seen during the Great Depression.

“Many of our former strengths, based on our close ties to America, have become weaknesses. Weaknesses that we must correct.”

Carney said tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump have affected workers in the auto and steel industries. He added that businesses are holding back investments “restrained by the pall of uncertainty that’s hanging over all of us.”

You are the company you keep, and if we rely on the USA we will be burnt.

This is about as polite as a Canadian brush off can get. We’re just about done being polite.

Alright let’s cut off relations, sick of hearing about Canada. We elected Trump in a crazy twist because dems didn’t have a primary etc, they think we are nazis. Just cut them off, they don’t buy our shit and we don’t buy theirs. Cool cool cool.

His name should be Carnie like carnival barker. He seems to be trading US ties for the Chinese dictatorship (that supports the Iranian terrorist regime). Carney is trashing the Canadian economy in real time, the economy is shrinking, less people can afford homes, all the while he’s bending Canada over for Xi and von der Leyen.

    7. > “Many of our former strengths, based on our close ties to America, have become weaknesses. Weaknesses that we must correct.”

Headline making this sound much worse than it is as seems to be the norm these days.

      > “We have to take care of ourselves because we can’t rely on one foreign partner,” he said. “We can’t control the disruption coming from our neighbors. We can’t control our future on the hope it will suddenly stop.

Totally normal take. The title implies have trade relations at all are an outright weakness and trade will be imminently cutoff, when he is actually calling attention to the over-reliance on a single historic partner that is proving to now be unreliable.

Canadian imports from the US have never in history been higher than they currently are, for the record. I don’t know if it’s all hollow talk, but the outcome is indistinguishable to if it was.

They are higher now than they were when all this started, and nothing you read in the news has even bordered on acknowledged that truth.

Yes! Block all US related imports now!

Canada must provide for their own without reliance on US money and imports.

Start looking for alternative partners to replace US. I’m sure China will be openly interested if Canada start divesting from US seriously.

Imagine a world without Trump….. Honestly, I can’t even imagine it anymore… He just won’t ever go away….

Canada has always been willing to overlook the US doing tasteless and awful things as long as they didn’t pick on us.

Now they have been full on bullying us and the American people don’t care and laugh at the hardships Canada is facing.

If we are always one bad election away from having our steel, automotive and forestry sector crumble apart, then we need to patch that risk.
