>Toyota and Honda have formed a new lobby group called the Pacific Manufacturing Association of Canada as the country’s automotive industry faces significant challenges.
>The two Japanese companies accounted for about three-quarters of vehicles produced in Canada last year, after a series of production pullbacks by the Detroit Three automakers.
This is basically a statement that Honda/Toyota are committed to developing Canadian jobs in manufacturing.
The timing is interesting.
* Before American midterm elections.
* As CUSMA trade negotiations are being treated like a hostage situation from the USA.
* As US administration blusters against us for expanding our trade relations with Asia, EU and more.
**Why would I buy from Ford / GM / Chrysler / Dodge etc. when their quality is low and their price is high**?
Why would I buy an American product when I can buy a better product, made in Canada, (and give the finger to Donald Trump with every dollar not spent on an American product).
Proud Honda of Canada MFG employee here. 🫡
I moved on from being a lifelong GM owner and bought a Toyota. Will not support US manufacturing for the foreseeable future.
It’s about time; the other auto lobby group misrepresented them by advancing mostly US interests.
Thank God we have Toyota and Honda producing vehicles in Canada – if we didn’t, our auto sector would probably be dead by now. They need to be supported for this – everyone go out and buy a Canadian-made Honda or Toyota for your next vehicle. It’s not a sacrifice: they actually make great vehicles that are both efficient and fun to drive – and last a long time. BUY CANADIAN.
Canada must attract more manufacturers, like from South Korea or Europe, to further diversify our auto industry. Mexico is also developing it’s own national car company because of the increasing lack of affordable options in their country; Canada should consider something similar, or partnering with the new Mexican company to maintain production (and sales) in Canada.
This video from Carney this morning suggests that much of this (different companies announcing their commitment to Canada) might be part of the strategy that our government has been quietly working on.
I love that Carney mentions the war of 1812 (without mentioning that the Whitehouse burned)
Cant wait for Toyota to come out with their ford maverick competitor
Good , the US is about to implode. We must remain the stable place that companies can thrive in.
Really wish Toyota would bring their 3.0l diesel engine into the north America market!
>“Where we’re also going to be focused a lot is on trade, tariffs, CUSMA negotiations, conversations, whatever that looks like, because it’s really important to have tariff-free access to the U.S. market.”
Not sure of the economics of it but there should be a financial incentive for buying CDN made cars. Like maybe no tax or something. This is sort of communistic but I wouldnt mind everyone driving a Toyota or Honda product if it was made here. With the increased volume they would be able to add jobs or new lines and pump them out. I mean who wouldn’t want a discounted Rav4.
I bought my 25 CRV in 2024 and it was made in Canada. Best purchase of my life. I was domestic for ages and then I made the change and I’ll never go back. It’s night and day.
Nice, love the Toyota’s
They make car in USA too.. what rubbish media reports
We want tesla tariffs to be taken off so that we can have affordable and reliable EVs
As I said in a previous thread, I’m hoping police from the top down start moving away from American car brands. Replacing the American cars with specially designed Toyota Rav4s, Sequoias and 4Runners.
Makes sense, they have to know the US will side with Ford and GMC over them every time.
Stellantis (Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler in Canada) needs to go. crap cars.
I’m only buying Toyota and Hondas for vehicles. I need a truck for my trades related job but the big three won’t be getting any of my money
