Dude….. the Catholic Church as you currently know it did not exist during the ecumenical councils. It didn’t exist until the East-West Schism in the 11th Century AD. The term „pope“ likely didn’t even exist until Marcellinus. Technically, he was before the 3rd Ecumenical Council, but the Church of Rome was nothing like it’s current form. There wasn’t even a Vatican until at least the 5th Century.
The Vatican has outlasted every single leader that threatened it. In fact, the beginning of the end of most of their empires was when they started to threaten the Vatican.
For better or worse, the Vatican is Jesus’ church and they can trace their authority through apostolic succession back to Peter and the other disciples Jesus gave the Keys to.
