Topic salience shifts, such as the rise of climate change, racial justice, and gender/sexuality research, may have increased the proportion of left-coded content. Editorial and funding priorities could have shifted toward projects with certain ideological framings. Growth of subfields with inherently left-coded topics, especially in the last three decades, could also play a role.“
