  1. He is telling the truth like it is. Takaichi-san is afraid of taking responsibility. She should be making prudent decisions based on facts on the ground, not some imaginary hopes.

  2. It’s almost a consensus among economists at this point that Takaichi is doing something vastly irresponsible by artificially papering over the problem.

    That said, she’s been calling for AI-driven growth and the like from the start, so the irresponsibility isn’t exactly a surprise — but repeated massive spending without funding is worsening the JGB situation. I wonder how long it’ll be before the BOJ has to hike hard to break her childish fantasy. Then again, the BOJ has institutional DNA that tends to prevent exactly that.

    I really hope we get a Japanese Volcker.
