Well Trump himself said it best „I love the poorly educated“

This man got a degree from Yale Law and has felt bad about himself ever since…

    From the article:

    >“Progressivism seeks to replace the basic premises of the Declaration of Independence and hence our form of government,” Thomas said. “[It] holds that our rights and our dignities come not from God, but from government. It requires of the people a subservience and weakness incompatible with a Constitution premised on the transcendent origin of our rights.”

Conservatives refuse to understand that our rights and dignities come from the fact that we exist.

Good government should enforce and protect our rights and dignities from radical religious extremists like Thomas.

Well, it’s the Daily Beast and it was far from an unhinged rant. In fact, I think anyone on the left should watch it as it really clarifies the far-right judicial framework, the threats they see in the US, and the „call to arms“ they’re issuing regarding the need to respond in revolutionary terms. He’s not wrong about a cynicism in our society as to our politics. But he wants a nation led by and committed to a “righteous cause, to traditional morality, to national defense, to free enterprise, to religious piety or to the original meaning of the Constitution.”

It’s a Christian nationalist viewpoint. If you aren’t committed to these things, he’s calling for your marginalization in American society (in the best case) and wants a founders level commitment to eradicating this from American life. Ironic coming from a man who the founders saw as less than a full human and whose very marriage didn’t fall under „traditional morality“ definitions for much of American history, including many today. But he’s not unhinged. He’s an angry Constitutionalist, a Christian nationalist, and he’s on the Supreme Court. If you’re one he sees as a threat, simply viewing his views as a joke is a mistake. These people have real power. We should all act accordingly.

  6. The irony that people who allowed a dictator to destroy the constitution are claiming that progressives are destroying the constitution.

That’s really scathing stuff. I think he just earned himself a ticket for another vacation on Harlan Crowes superyacht!

Antintellectialism is always a hallmark of authoritarians. Finding a way disempower experts is critical for pulling the wool over peoples eyes.

„Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas railed against progressivism, calling it an existential threat to the principles that founded the United States 250 years ago.“

Is Thomas forgetting that 250 years ago the Constitution wouldn’t even have applied to him because of the color of his skin?

Whatever happened to SCOTUS Justices not participating in political speech?

  13. America is not a god-founded nation!

    It’s a nation founded by god-fearing people.

    There’s a fucking difference.

There’s no divine right in our rights… they are dictated by people adhering to being better than the oppressors yokes who’ve they’ve thrown off.

It should never be „god bless America“… it should be „America bless/thank god“, if it has to be said at all.

So much horseshit. The ideals of the US came directly from intellectuals who were studied and read in the classics that came before them. Our existing conservative justices have done nothing to preserve those ideals unless it benefits them in the particular case in front of them. They are a transactional lot with an agenda and an axe to grind. Fuck them and their critiques. They are a clear and present danger.

I’m getting heart palpitations knowing people like this are running the justice system at the highest level

    And I’m fucking Canadian

I’m convinced Clarence would’ve joined the southern states during the Civil War and argued that their position was consistent with the Constitution..

Thomas is not only a corrupt piece of shit, he’s also a cultist. Little surprise.

  18. Given the many deists, agnostics, and atheists who were among the founding fathers, they’d be surprised to learn all our protections come from God and not the constitution.

Good thing they didn’t add an addendum, some sort of amendment, limiting religion in the govt

I do believe that Justice Thomas is confusing ( or conflating) cynicism, rejection, hostility and animus directed toward Trump and MAGA as being directed toward America.

Quiet everyone, the guy who showed porn to a woman without her consent has something to day about religion.

  21. The constitution was and is progressivism and was never intended to be a static document for 2 centuries.

MAGA loves stupid people. They are easy to manipulate and believe anything you tell them. And, they don’t ask questions…

  25. Corrupt judges that accept gifts like Clarence Thomas are a threat to our country

  26. I just want to point out that Thomas and Alito were both nominated by Republican presidents who would be considered moderate by today’s standards.

So never get lulled into thinking that a „moderate Republican“ (a species of Republican that is nearly extinct) is a reasonable choice for president.

Has he lost his mind? Everything he said in that article is like the upside down. *Progressives* don’t want to protect unalienable rights? Conservatives are the *protectors* of unalienable rights?

    Progressives want 2 things:

+ For everybody to be equal in the eyes of the law and government; not just white, Christian, conservative men.

+ For the government to provide services that meet the most basic human needs of its people, especially when we are already paying taxes for just that purpose and NOT getting it.

    Conservatives want 2 things:

+ For rich, white people to be able to do whatever they want without consequences.

+ For everyone else to work all day in a way that builds Conservatives‘ wealth.
