But what about the environment, aboriginal right, trees and all that good stuff?

Canada has an oil problem that we are doubling down on rather than transitioning away from.

We need to change to renewables like wind, solar, etc. But right now the world still runs on oil. Love that we’re ramping up our exports to Asia. And we need to get a pipeline to the east so we can be a big exporter to Europe.

It’s crazy to see the narrative change. A year ago news articles were published where the oil companies were complaining about the rates being charged while the pipeline was at ~90% of capacity if I remember right and saying it would never get to 100% with the fees being charged.
Where we are at today:
The 890,000 barrel capacity has been reached
A project for 10% increased oil flow using drag reducing agents/chemicals by January 2027
A second project to add more pumping stations set for completion some time in 2028 instead of 2029.
A 40% increase in capacity for the new pipeline in under 3 years is now the plan.
And as the article the OP posted notes – South Korea and other countries are actively attempting to change their supply lines to source more from the Canadian west coast. So we’re going to be exporting more, diversifying away from the US at the same time and these will be longterm supply chains built that are harder to break.

I’m sure conservatives will be lining up to thank Trudeau for buying that pipeline.

Japan and Korea have bought a ton of oil from Iran in the last 10 years. If we had another pipeline, a lot of that money could have gone to us.

Now imagine how much goodwill and soft power we’d be able to generate if we had another pipeline to the West Coast…

The Canadian government should be taking care of Canada.
