    1. Great news, I for one really feel like I’m living in the 5th best economy in the world when measured by growth currently.

The futures is bright, until fiscal drag kicks in.

    2. This is empirically good news, but boy I don’t really know what to make of it.

Things seem more stretched and destitute than ever, and the rhetoric from 90% of the political class are stating hard times are coming.

It really does feel like an engineered asset strip. The country makes tons of money, 5th best on the entire planet, and yet we’re slashing every single thing to the bone, and people are struggling all over the country. This money is being generated and it’s going somewhere – but that’s the ever elusive question isn’t it?

EDIT: I’m aware that my simplified perception of economics at scale doesn’t necessarily paint the truest picture of success. I would posit the question that if such a ’successful‘ economy can’t make the maths work, is it not possible that the system isn’t working?

5th largest economy with poverty wages and everything extremely expensive. Socialism for the rich is rife.

    5. I always look at these sorts of headlines with massive skepticism, like just because the billionaires in this country are raking it in doesnt mean this nation is any better off

This is good news, but it’s not yet reflective of people’s pockets and the feeling around disposable income.

    7. Honestly feel like I’m better off that I’ve been in years. Able to put a decent amount of money into savings. First holiday abroad later this year since 2015 (and that was only because of some inheritence). Saving for a house deposit. Not living month to month feels really good.

We’ll likely be overtaken again by India in the near future, but are also likely to permanently overtake Japan at some point.

    9. Good news? About the UK? Am I dreaming?

Great if true. There’s only so long things can always just be negative.

Great, now do per capita and measure it over time.

It’s a massive delusion that people think we’re a rich country.

„In a blow to Rachel Reeves“?

More seriously, this will probably last about a month until the effects of the Iran war hit.

    12. Wealth inequality is absolutely rife in this country. Sounds good being so economically wealthy, but realistically half the country is in poverty becuase the top 1% have hoarded so much. They aren’t even priving enough jobs or jobs that pay well enough anymore. Absolute shambles. Just talk to anyone under the age of 25 and they’ll tell you how hard it is to find work now and even then they are usually massively overqualified and up against 100+ other people with a degree.

That’s nice. Can I, as a single person with no debts, buy a house on an average salary yet?
