      ***The Telegraph reports:***

The Pope has said the world is “being ravaged by a handful of tyrants” after an escalating war of words with Donald Trump.

On a visit to Camaroon on Thursday, Pope Leo said: “The masters of war pretend not to know that it takes only a moment to destroy, yet often a lifetime is not enough to rebuild.

“They turn a blind eye to the fact that billions of dollars are spent on killing and devastation, yet the resources needed for healing, education and restoration are nowhere to be found.”

The first American Pope has been an outspoken critic of the war in Iran, drawing anger from the Trump administration.

Earlier this week, the US president attacked the pontiff for his stance on the Middle East, claiming he was “WEAK on crime and terrible for foreign policy”.

    2. The Vatican is about to be tariffed and sanctioned. Can’t speak in that manner of tone about Trump Jesus.

Tyrants with money and weapons like nuclear arms and cash to spend on bombardments.

As it has always been, and unfortunately seems like as it ever will be.

    5. I’m not a religious fellow, but I’m in the pope’s corner. Fuck these tyrants!

    6. Of all the stupid things Trump has done, he decides to start beef with the pope

Amazing how quoting open ended Christian beliefs are controversial direct political attacks these days.

    8. Pope may be making a case for the Vaticans Reputation Redemption.

World is being run by Tyrants, it need Vindicators instead.

The people desire Justice, not War

    9. “Let not any one pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without a protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name, and with the means which he helps to supply, because he will not trouble himself to use his mind on the subject.”

      John Stuart Mill

The man is good, probably. I’m not a catholic. But the whole point is that – instead of sitting and doing nothing ( or a bare minimum of what needs to be done) – evil people should be stopped. If a punishment for evil is a pretty much none existing – evil people have no point in stopping.

It must really really sting the US politicians even more that the first American pope hates them all haha

You know, the more I read about this Trump person, I get the feeling that he isn’t all good

As a Catholic, I was worried that the Pope chosen to succeed the great Francis (rest in peace) might make the Church go backwards.

But with each passing day, Leo has been making me proud

    13. It’s so cathartic having a prominent leader just speaking up. Even he’s powerless to do much directly about it.

One of the most disheartening things of recent years is hearing and seeing so many leaders praise, compliment, coddle and bend the knee to Trump et al in the interests of diplomacy. Which he always sees as validation, and weakness in their part.

Pope Leo taking down Trump. Didn’t have that on my bingo card, but I’ll take it!

    15. I’m very anti church and religion on general. But this pope is being a real dude. Gives me some hope at least…

    16. He’s not wrong.

There are a couple dozen people in the world that are making it infinitely worse for everyone.

Whether that is Trump, Putin, Musk or Zuckerberg they can all disappear tomorrow as far as I’m concerned

    17. It kinda blows my mind that they would use military and then expect the pope to say it was ok. I’m not even a super Christian and would expect that a pope would always push for peace.

    18. There’s way more of us, if we could just get on the same page we could sort out this problem in 24 hours

    19. I’m pretty mad at myself, and will be for the rest of my life, that fucking Israeli politics dictated so much of my early life. I grew up in Missouri.. At least my grandkids will be spared from oppressive AIPAC influence.

He’s not wrong. Trump supporters are the farthest thing from actual Christians, nowhere does the Bible say be racists and love pedos.

Our governmental system was set up so there would be checks and balances in power, preventing one person from causing great harm. Instead, we have the Republican MAGA Party in power, which kowtows to Trump and ignores our system. And now, every person on earth is worse off because of it.

    22. Island_Monkey86 on

He is speaking with a voice of reason. Unfortunately for us all, the very people he is referring to will not be willing to listen.

A quote from Harry Potter / Voldemort comes to mind when I think about someone like Trump or Putin see the world.

„There is no good and evil, there is only power“

    23. Philo_Publius1776 on

He’s right. The Trump regime, the Putin Regime, the Iranian and Israeli regimes, and Xi’s regime should all be put on trial for crimes against humanity. Lots of folks in Africa and the Americas as well, but I’m less familiar with those regimes and so won’t name shit I don’t understand.

    24. Gotta hand it to the church, they chose the right time for the first American Pope.

    25. Pope Leo and Pope Francis have been a breath of fresh air in the catholic church

    26. The pope is speaking truth and instead of leaders listening they continue to condemn and cut funding. The leaders truly do not want peace- they want power and that will destroy us.

It’s not just tyrants. It’s the wealthy behind them enabling it because those tyrants help them not get taxed.

      Fun little circlejerk.

The wealthy and I would include the ambitious to be wealthy people are a large part of the problem.

I’m done hearing that wealthy people take on risk and that’s why they get more money. No, they get money by giving workers a shit deal for their productivity while using their excess to buy commodities, raise the price, then sell it to us. Or figure out ways to get money over time like micro transactions and subscriptions.

Tyrants aren’t doing that. The wealthy enable this. The wealthy are worse than the threat of being scammed or mugged on the street. They do it legally. They hire people to tell them how to do it better.

The wealthy and ambitious to be wealthy love their orphan crushing machines.

The wealthy and ambitious to be healthy are also why housing sucks. They buy it all, rent it back, then lobby local governments and campaign to not have new housing built because it reduces the value of what they own. You’ll never have a home or it will be really hard, because of the people.

I would tell people to unfriend their wealthy friends but they are probably wealthy or mooching off their wealthy friends.
