They have tours from Armenia that go through Georgia to turkey.
Without telling Nikol that they called it “historical Armenian lands”.
Some take tours, some go independently. (That may be your only option if the place you want to go to is very much off the beaten track, so to speak.) Some Turks will know English or other European languages (esp, German), or perhaps Arabic if you speak that.
Even in peacetime, there are always lots of police checkpoints where everybody has to get out of the vehicle and show their ID. Right now, with a war and a half going on (Syria plus Iran), I can only imagine that there are even more restrictions.
I’ve been lucky enough to go twice. One with Hamshen Tours in Armenia which took a van through Georgia to Ani, Ararat, Van, Mush, and Kars. And I’ve been with a group from the US starting in Adana and ending in Van.
Highly recommend Armenians to go. It’s a very emotional trip and feels surreal to be in the lands that we’ve only heard from stories, history, and songs.
