Child holding football threatens to go home if we don’t play by their silly rules

    2. Which just proves that any trade deal with Trump is worthless and not to be relied on.

    3. Trumps threatens more like. They’re only in a sad state with him and because of him.

    4. Commercial-Pear-543 on

      Yeah we’ve noticed.

That’s why you can’t rely on their word for anything anymore – what’s the point in trying to enter trade deals with someone who moves the goalposts every five minutes??

    5. The UK should jump on the anti-US sentiment building in Europe right now. Our ‘special relationship’ is an illusion. I think we could build our own apps, payment systems and AI and find buyers in Europe wanting to avoid US products.

    6. Which is precisely why bending over to please him to get it in the first place was such a stupid idea.

The child knows only temper tantrums and making demands, and he’s turned the US into a dictatorship in record time – there’s no place for actual diplomacy.

    7. Different_Bake_611 on

So the trade deals are worthless as they can be changed depending on how the orange turd is feeling.

    8. You know what Trump. Crack on mate.

Every time you do something like this it adds another weight on the side of the scale that pushes the UK more back to the common market and trading with the EU.

    9. AssumptionBudget279 on

Then change it, and we’ll look towards China and look closer towards the EU, especially the EU

    10. ByteSizedGenius on

When you were attacked on 9/11 we pledged we’d support you. You mocked our efforts and sacrifices made in your wars in the ME, you mocked our navy, you mocked our PM, you said you didn’t need us in a tantrum. Now you make threats about trade deals.

Imagine if we threw this kind of strop in 82 because the US wouldn’t get property involved. Who needs enemies when you have the current US regime as an allie.

    11. Same with any agreement Trump has and then he wonders why no one takes him seriously.

    12. Fluffy-Republic8610 on

If the trade deal can be changed that easy, what’s the point in doing any work on agreeing any trade deal with the USA? Just keep it at retaliation and matching of trade barriers?

    13. We need to start getting closer to the EU and further away from the US. This is very much a „I am altering the deal, pray I don’t alter it further“ type situation.

    14. Unusual-Art2288 on

Shows you cant trust him. Already he wants to change a trade deal he agreed to.

    15. Is it that great a deal anyway?

Let’s start looking at some actual serious digital taxes on US companies, as was originally envisaged, before the US threw a hissy fit.

According to the US we run a trade deficit with them anyway.

    16. Unable_Character2410 on

So what’s the point in a trade deal or even signing any agreements with the US then?

This kind of fuckery is an example of why Iran won’t trust the US on any negotiations and is also an example of why nobody can trust the US government. Any deals made with Trump are worthless if he can just change terms to extort other countries so he gets what he wants. The guy is an absolute joke. Extortion is all he knows.

It’s in a sad state because of Trump, this is literally his own doing.

    18. You can’t just agree with Trump once, you have to agree with him *forever*.

You can be loyal to him for years, and then as soon as you disagree with him *once*, he immediately jumps onto Twitter and starts calling you names.

Starmer is right to keep his distance. We need to focus on our other allies, and hope the Dems get back in after the next election.

    19. Almost as if any deal with Trump is written on toilet paper and will be treated as such.

    20. Dayzed-n-Confuzed on

And that’s the problem right there. Nobody trusts the US anymore. “So we have a deal yes, good… I have decided to change the deal… be grateful I don’t decide to change it more forcefully!!!”

    21. psioniclizard on

Most of us care more about the coming spike in our energy bill. He reallt doesn’t understand other people have their only thoughts does he?

    22. NoTitleChamp on

The US to every country: „Don’t you even think about changing terms of deals!“

      also The US…

    23. We know it can, that’s why we can no longer rely on it and need to do everything in the power of our government to decrease our reliance on it.

Being held over the barrel under threats is not the way to have a fruitful partnership.

    24. daniluvsuall on

Why do we treat the US right now as anything but an unreliable agitated neighbour? You can’t make deals with them when they can’t have a consistent policy on anything

    25. Prestigious_Box5654 on

There is no point signing any deal with them, because they will not honor it.

    26. FrostySquirrel820 on

Anyone signing a trade deal with Trump, who doesn’t know he could rip it up on a whim at any time, shouldn’t be allowed near the crayons.

Trump could sign in blood and it’s still not worth the paper it’s written on.

    27. pajamakitten on

Good thing we reached those promised sunlit uplands with Brexit then. Could you imagine how bad it could be if Brexit were a failure?

    28. Didst_thou_Farteth on

‚Special relationship‘. We’re at long last seeing it for the one sided farce it is.

    29. FrequentPrior5928 on

Starmer or please some just needs to stand up and call Trump out as an profoundly unintelligent narcissist moron. I can’t believe the world is having to tip toe around what is basically a toddler in a suit. My god this timeline is so stupid.

Just tell him to do one. Pull the plug ourselves on the trade deal and tell America come back when an adult is in charge.

You can’t trust the Americans that much is plain – they’ve double crossed pretty much anyone who has ever worked with them.

Time to rip the plaster off the special relationship which was always fake. And cancel the Kings visit.

    30. In other words President Trumps word isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. If he feels like changing a deal he will. How the fuck is this eejit still president

    31. rogerwilcove on

Wow, he really hates that there have been actual consequences for the people who appeared in the Epstein files in the UK…
