Deeply fucked up. Americans are so beyond brainrotted to support this kind of immigration policy. Dude was a legal immigrant, a business owner, and was working fucking DoorDash to make sure he could pay his tax arrears. Wow, what a menacing criminal.

I don’t mean to be insensitive but I have to know… Has he been a Trump supporter? Lots of people supported him thinking it would never happen to them. Was he one?

Very frightening to think this could happen to any Canadian who goes to the US and does crimes.

Sucks for him.
I don’t think Alligator Alcatraz is an appropriate place for anybody, and I think the oven treatment of undocumented immigrants real and perceived awful.
However if he commits a removable offense and they decide to proceed, that’s on him. In the same token, if he was making an effort to pay restitution, then they’re basically writing it off, which seems silly, but also within bounds.

While this man’s deportation isn’t all that surprising (though unfortunate, since he has to leave his family, all because of less than $12k in debt), his description of how the Florida detention centre operates is interesting, and how he says that none of the people he met there were dangerous, and “They’re treating people like animals. Alligator Alcatraz is like (Nazi) Germany in 1939, updated with 2026 rules.“

I knew this was going to be a CTV article. Spark fear with a headline and spill the truth later. Man committed a crime and is being deported. Last I heard Tax Fraud is a crime here too

Can we start deporting our criminals instead of giving them lighter sentences so they can stay?

Good. Maybe we should try having tougher laws here in Canada.
Also, what the f%#k is up with the headline and why is CTV even publishing this? Oh wait. I know. The MSM has to sensationalize this sh#t to keep Canadians angry at ICE and Trump, right?! eLbOwS uP! 🥴

I don’t understand the outrage here.
If you’re not an American citizen the risk of arbitrary detention has existed since shortly after 9/11. The Patriot Act opened the door for alot of previously illegal things to be done in the interest of ’national security‘ – and that was never taken off the books.
People need to stop being so naive and learn about the laws & customs of the place they are going to. Even as a Canadian you do not enjoy any of the rights & freedoms you may ‚feel‘ you ‚deserve‘.
lives in the states for 20 years, he’s no longer a canadian.

>During that time, Dixon says he fell behind more than US$30,000 in unpaid taxes. In 2022, he pleaded “no contest” to tax evasion and agreed to a monthly repayment plan. Over the past three years, Dixon says he has paid back two-thirds of the amount but still owes the U.S. government approximately $12,000.
And let me guess, if we dig into this we’ll find his immigration papers are bogus too.

Canada should charge him (and his family, if they decide to come here) for any medical needs they require ….. hated this country enough to leave, spent all his time in the US (paying them some taxes, they will get what’s owed to them) and then wants to come back to Canada coz they kicked him out…..!?! Well he can practice some of those US customs up here, starting with paying for any healthcare he or his family requires. Why should people who have resided in this country their entire lives subsidize people who leave – don’t pay any taxes and then come back?!?
