    1. >A retired couple who captured their neighbour’s cat and tied it in a bag, before leaving it at a lake a few miles away, were jailed for three months for what a judge described as “cruel” and “horrendous” behaviour.

I’d take their compensation and burn it in front of them*.

      *I wouldn’t. I’d donate to a rescue.

Cat was found 3 days later in very poor condition but alive. Thank god for that at least, hope its recovering.

      > Patrick Connolly was previously employed as a lollipop man for six years before he retired.

I wonder if that’s the extent of his working life, or did they just forget to include the rest

Jaysus that’s a hard 64 and 67 year old. My parents are around that age and don’t look as old.

      >Tempers had reached a peak, and it was accepted that her clients did something that was “exceptionally foolish”.

At what point do you go from „jaysus the cats after shitting in the garden“ to „let’s do the most obscene act of animal cruelty you can imagine“.

Cat shit is just a part of life sometimes. My mam’s house is in an area with lots of strays and for some reason, they loved treating our back garden like a litter box and it was my job to pick it all up. But they also felt safe there, it’s where many of them had their kittens. They must feel like it’s home. They kept out of our way aside from when the kittens were tiny babies, when the mother cat would present them to us right at the door.

That’s something my neighbour would do. Gave out to me for putting bird seed out. Hates all animals, often tells me the next time he catches a cat in his garden he’ll drown it. Hes a genuine psychopath, they’re among us

    8. OMG. What a pair of vile specimens. My dad can’t stand cats shitting in his garden and doesn’t particularly like them but like most people it would never enter his head to do anything like that.

    9. Monaghan native here…doesn’t really surprise me. The amount of animal abuse in Monaghan is immense. My cats are all from people who were going to drown them.

My father and mother used to drown kittens, my father ran a puppy mill, along with docking their tails with scissors. My dog was from a man who was going to dump him on the side of the road. One of the neighbour’s growing up shot another neighbour’s dog for entering his property.

Nothing’s ever done. The dog wardens are useless. 😭 I’m literally in therapy to this day for the animal abuse I’ve seen growing up (10/15 years ago). 🫠

    10. I wonder if it is possible for the neighbors to sue them for the loss of value of their property due to everyone knowing what a shitty people they are.

I’m glad they were caught on CCTV. Bad enough to take the cat but the cruelty of tying it in a bag rather than just letting it off if they didn’t like it fir whatever reason.

A lite sentence if you ask me. Only one sentence worthy for harming an animal out of pure malevolence and this is coming from a carnivore.

At least they got a custodial sentence – Irish courts often give ludicrously light sentences for animal cruelty.

3 days? Jesus the poor cat.

So what happens now? The cat has to come back home to her territory and live next to those neighbours again?

“Deferring the matter until the end of the hearing, the judge also ordered that the Connollys be kept in the court’s prison cell in the meantime, telling them directly, “You can see how you feel being trapped for a while.””

Brilliant judge. Respectful couple my A. I hope their many grandchildren are proud of them. A little story for Grandparent’s Day at school or to the local kids of their former lollipop man and wife.🤢😡

Absolute slackjawed pieballs. Serious lack of empathy for animals among so many in Ireland.
