The United States will not renew defense agree with NATO.
When will this headline come across the wire?

I think the point here is that Italy don’t wanna take part in any war crimes!

I personally think that Israel should suspend all of its intelligence sharing agreements (except the US).
If our intelligence services discovers a plan in Europe or Canada, we should keep our mouths shut and let those nations experience the “Find Out” that comes after the “Fuck Around”.
You can’t hate us and then expect us to help you.

Hi guys sorry to curb your enthusiasm but that’s not what is happening. Italy has not accepted the *automatic* renewal of this arms deal with Israel but it’s still very possible that the deal will go through *manually*.
Still, Meloni is one of our most fiercely pro-Israel governments in years. It’s an odd move to say the least.

At least Bibi does not mistaken „Defense agreement“ for an Offensive one like that other orange man does lol.

That’s a pretty big move if it actually goes through. Italy usually stays pretty aligned with its Western allies, so any change like that would definitely get attention. Would be interesting to see the details and what exactly isn’t being renewed

For now. Once the political grandstanding over, they’ll be back.

Italian here. Don’t be fooled. This just „suspends auto renewal“ of the deal. Also, it was renewed two days ago, and lasts until 2031 when she’ll be out of office. Meloni is just trying to mitigate her outlook after losing on her reform of the judiciary system and lowering polls. She’s been a staunch defender of Israel and MAGA politics until yesterday with Trump lashing at the Pope.
And yet she’s not changing side on that, just damage control since the latest events in the middle east are making her allegiances hard to defend.
This specific act changes literally nothing and doesn’t imply any decreased support to both Bibi and Trump.

It’s a total PR scam. The deal automatically renewed on April 13th, making Meloni’s April 14th „block“ pure theater. The agreement is already active for 5 more years until 2031 !

>But in late March, her camp lost a referendum on a judicial constitutional reform, which many interpreted as a vote on her government’s popularity – not least in terms of its relations with Israel and the US.
>With only 18 months to go before the next general election, Meloni has been tweaking her rhetoric in order to distance herself from these associations, which are becoming increasingly unpopular among the Italian electorate.
Democracy works, at least sometimes.

> Last week, Italy summoned the Israeli ambassador to Rome after warning shots were fired by Israeli forces at a convoy of Italian UN peacekeepers in Lebanon, damaging one vehicle but causing no injuries.
You shot at our peacekeepers. That is unacceptable, regardless of the outcome!
> On Monday, Israel in turn summoned Italy’s ambassador to protest comments by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who had condemned Israel’s „unacceptable attacks“ on civilians in Lebanon.
You said that our attacks on civilians was unacceptable. How dare you!
That said, it isn’t like the renewal is dead.
> Meloni said her government had decided to suspend the renewal, which happens every five years, „in view of the current situation“, without offering specifics.
They suspended it. Nothing says they can’t push it through later on. It’s more like making a point. To Israel or to Italians who demand action, I don’t know.
