Growing up in the Catholic Church, the worst people to be around were white male converts to the faith who think they had it all figured out, no gray, just black and white, a rule book, and were willing to tell everyone and anyone what it meant to „really be Catholic.“ We called them Captain Catholic. Vance is that guy and thinks the VP slot gives him the authority to combine with his moralism. These jackasses are nothing new in the Church. We’ve just put one in a high profile political office and he needs to show fealty to his boss.

The pope is, by definition of the religion he purports to be, literally infallible when it comes to matters of theology. He is Jesus’s emissary on Earth. Inheritor of the church that was built upon the rock himself, Saint fucking Peter.
