Loss of human life to conflict is so sad. I hope at some point humans stop killing each other.

Nobody, NOBODY should have to fight a war that they didn’t start or didn’t get paid to fight (willingly).
Revoke their citizenship and have that be the end of it, if you’re looking to punish them. Everyone is given ONE life to live. Life is the most non-fungible valuable asset in existence and it should not be that easily revocable by a leader, even if making it so would lead to the destruction of a nation.
Edit: rain all the downvotes you want lol. I’m siding with human life on this one.

Is it „fair“ that only half of the population is forced to die in some trench?
Doesnt seem fair to me

What’s so problematic about recruiting women as drone operators?
A matter of fairness isn’t shielding half your population while you send the other half to be killed.

He’s wholely and completely correct, but you can’t force it.
It’s a morale thing to do it for your borthers, sisters and neighbours, but democratic pluralism has to allow those who don’t want it. It’s also kinda selfish and unfair to those who couldn’t / didn’t want to fight for Ukraine.
But Ukraine wants to be a clean democracy, and their van-kidnappings are already difficult in that regard.
So it’s good to see that it’s currently only speeches that request it and no laws or kidnappings of Ukrainians in foreign countires.

I’m an idiot, but isn’t Pravda a pro-russian propaganda site? So, making their enemy look bad is kinda in line, no?
And the quote says that the common soldiers would see it as fair for people to let them rotate out? He didn’t say they should be returned and drafted? Just that if manpower allowed for it, having rotations out of the front would be fair? How is that controversial?
Again, I’m an idiot.

A country that cant conscript to fight a war isnt a country. The world has been at peace for so long we’ve forgotten that governments were historically just local protection rackets.

I can’t stand people who aren’t Ukrainians shaming those who dodge the draft, it is indeed not fair that some run and some are forced to fight, but I can’t imagine telling someone „go fight a war“ from the comfort of my home if I didn’t do it myself.

Drafting women or the wealthy would be fair

This is a very difficult issue that people who are against Ukraine constantly bring up as a point against them, but the truth is that this is what’s required in a nation that is fighting for its very survival. Conscription becomes a necessity. You can’t fight a war against a great power with 4 times your population and not conscript men to defend your country. It’s horrible, and it’s brutal for the men who have to do it, but there is literally no other option if you want your country to survive.

Did they ever decrease the draft age to 18? I know that the EU were pressuring them to do that in one of their aid discussions.

Fuck off from them. There is no legal way to enforce it, unless the west is willing to violate human rights. My country is an active war zone, it’s not allowed to force people to come back.
Additionally, a lot of people have left prior to the war and are not willing to even come back after the war.

This is an interesting point of discussion. What is a life? To the individual, it is everything. No life, no individual, no existence, no anything. To a state, a movement, a cause, an organisation? A life isn’t worth much. It’s a tool to operate the machines these concepts require to propagate and function. However, a life is worth a lot to them when that life is given in service. Historically, a lot of praise is given on people who die in service of a ‚greater‘ cause. That will probably always be true. We also tend to celebrate those who volunteer. The men Zelensky is referring did not volunteer, and do not want to. Does this make them cowards?
Men have women have lost their lives to preserve or propagate a cause, morally good or not. For independence, to defend their people or nation, for civil rights, democracy, communism, the list goes on.
Ukraine is currently fighting for it’s integrity, and possibly it’s continued existence as an independent state. Arguably it’s fighting for Europe. Is that a cause worth potientially dying for?
For me? No. I’m not Ukrainian, I don’t really care if Donbas or Crimea is flying the flag of Russia, at least not enough to volunteer. I will never be drafted to fight. Does that mean others should be? Can I honestly answer that question for the people of Ukraine?
What if it was your country, or your cause?

Fuck that. I hate this mentality that you’re somehow obligated to be shot to death because you were unfortunate enough to be born in a country that got invaded. You only get one life. If everybody just refused to fight we’d be better off as a species.
