Oh dang it, and there was me thinking he’d be a shoo-in for 2032.

Also, very short interview. Disappointing they didn’t ask him more questions.

    2. Not speaking about stiffing his tenant on 3 grand for over a decade sadly. Mask well and truly slipped Jim. Feck off.

He had a sense of duty. He had an innate desire to serve. Let he who hasn’t returned money cast the first stone.

Ah good, he learned his lesson and won’t keep people’s money any more.

And to think that all he had to do was be a decent person and give that man back the money he owed him.

I know that many are scared of landlords leaving the market, but could we introduce something like a landlord licence that you lose if you are engaged in those kind of shenanigans?

They thought he was a shoo in. I can’t say I’m a fan of FF and their cynical selection of celebrity candidates. To think he might have had a chance to be on a salary of €330,000+ guaranteed for at least 7 years and he didn’t think it was worth paying back the €3,300 for that! He would have had some hope if he had paid it straight away even at the beginning. Its completely illogical that he didn’t. It seems he still doesn’t get it.

    8. >He added: “I probably had a romantic view of public service and duty, from my time in the Defence Forces.”

I’ve a romantic view of the highest seat in public office not going to a corrupt landlord Jim.

The hubris dripping through this interview is absolutely hilarious, he’s learned absolutely nothing.

Say what you want. He promised to bring people together in his campaign. And he did. He brought together a fella that was owed money and a fella that owed him money.

    10. Never do *what* again..? Ask voters for their support?

      Or punch-down on vulnerable tenants?

Among the most horrendously embarrassing campaigns anyone has run in Irish politics.

So bad that it effectively overshadows everything Gavin did in life before hand and anything he’s likely to do after. It will be the first thing most people think when they hear his name, or see him aimlessly shuffling around Dublin City muttering to himself about betrayal and attempting to remember basic facts about his own life and financial dealings.

    12. > JIM GAVIN HAS said he’ll “never” run for president again

Does he really think anyone would ever ask him again?!

    13. Just for the record in case anyone just read the headline

      > “I’ll never do it again but I have no regrets of what I did,” Gavin said.

He means running for president, not stealing money from tenants.

    14. “I’ll never do it again but I have no regrets of what I did,” Gavin said.

There you have it folks. He’s never going to run for president again because it was tough on him when he was found out for being a prick, but he has no regrets about ripping off a tenant.

I have never seen a guy blow up a stellar reputation as quickly as this guy. He’s clearly a bit pompous idiot. To think he thought he could get away with running for president, in a country with a housing crisis when he is a landlord of the scumbag variety. The fact that he did this to a journalist shows an extra level of arrogance and stupidity that he thought he could get away with it.

    16. Didn’t the tenant just accidentally over pay him? I know the reason is “bank error” but why would a tenant allow a standing order to go through for SIX months? Why wouldn’t you go straight to the bank after the first month? The tenant caused the problem, and Gavin didn’t rectify it making him come out as the bad guy. But it really seems like a benign act. If I accidentally paid someone for six months and then they refused to return the funds I’d make it a bigger deal at the time, not wait over a decade to complain about it.

Totally understand Gavin should’ve made it right at the time of incident but it’s not like he maliciously stole money in the first place.
