I think this picture does a good job depicting why moving the headquarters out West makes a ton of sense.
The truth is bad enough without making up stuff to get attention. Every thread I see about this on social media breathlessly announces that Trump is „abolishing the national forest system“, „selling off the national forests to billionaires“.
The national forest system is not shutting down. The forests are not being sold. The timber rights are being leased, but that’s been true forever. The truth is in OP’s text: The Trump administration is shutting down research facilities, consolidating regional offices, and moving the headquarters.
Will this result in worse forest management? Probably. Is this an attempt to shift the forests away from conservation and toward exploitation? Most definitely. Should we be worried? Yes. Should we lie about what’s actually happening, to try to get peoples‘ attention? No.
IMO this post is also runs against the spirit of /r/MapPorn, because the map is just a couple of useless badly-framed screenshots from an un-credited website. The point of this post is the headline, not the map.
