      As most of the people in Northern Ireland are entitled to an Irish passport in addition to the British one, people are gradually switching to Irish passports due to growing pro-unification sentiment, desire to avoid queues in European airports and convenience.

      I don’t think I’ve ever seen Northern Ireland pop up in this sub before. Most of the people I’ve spoken to about this have both passports in their names and travel with whichever one is more useful at the time.

      You could be an Irish passport holder with a ton of land and its only you a few cows and a pig.

      Population density is more relevant

      Doesn’t make sense for them to have the British passport at the moment when the Irish one lets them work in the EU.

      I live in London not Ulster. But I can get both passports.

      No idea why you wouldn’t get an Irish passport in this day & age.

      I’m surprised it’s not more Irish, not due to identity but a good back up for EU entry while travelling.

      Good friend of mine lives in that tiny green enclave on the Ards peninsula in the far east of the map (Portaferry)

      Can confirm it’s the only Catholic town in a sea of hardline unionism

      There is pretty much nothing useful or worthwhile that can be gleaned from this map.

      Uptake in both Irish and UK passports have increased in the communities that wouldn’t traditionally opt for the respextiv3 passport because they both offer privileges the other can’t and everyone in the country is entitled to both.

      Irish passport offers EU perks and is one of the strongest in the world.

      UK passport has concessions for visa limits and conditions when travelling/living in Australia.

      In 2011, 59.1% had a UK passport, down to 52.5% in 2021, a drop of 6.5%. 20.9% had an Irish passport in 2011 and 32.3% in 2021, an increase if 11.4%

      There have been approximately 400k Irish passports issued to residents of Northern Ireland between 2021 and 2024. For years where detailed data was made available, about 1/3 of those were first time passports.
