To be honest, his portfolio was a hard one and despite his own assessment and that of the private sector forestry organisation – he wasn’t doing that well (imo). This way he can duck out with little political damage. In fairness to him it’s a mammoth task to sort forestry here in Ireland and would take a skilled political operator, as well as a competent and wise diplomat – MHR could be one of the those things, but he’s not both of those things in regards to forestry at least.

This was always going to happen. The whole Healy Rae brand is built on being the underdog who marches up to Dublin and tells those feckers in Government Buildings what the People of Ireland (read: Kerry) Really Think. Hard to do when you become those feckers in Government Buildings.
