As someone who hasn’t lived or even been to Japan, I’d imagine they want to be conservative because they like their country the way it is, versus Western men liking their countries cause a demagogue told them to. But maybe it is just the same – what do y’all think who live there?

Only able to get to the second page before facing an ad wall, but seems like the article was saying it was mostly old men that form the core of the conservative demographic? Also, article is based on a 2017 study so maybe not a great gauge of the here and now.

The idea that “education” = “progressive” is a western parochialism.

  4. A majority of young people in Japan also overwhelmingly voted for right wing candidates… it makes no sense but yeah, unsurprising

  5. Because japanese education literally glosses over things on purpose while indocrinating others. Teach those man the basics of das capital and see how thar changes real quick. No one with a modicrum of intelligence remains right wing studying leftist economic theory. Conservatory sure, but economically speaking, no one well educated remains a capitalist

  6. Keep in mind the article also pointed out that college educated women are the left most demographic by numbers. It’s not the college education itself.
