Apparently the toothpaste is called „Periotrap“ and is only available in Germany right now. Any German redditors want to brush their teeth with this and let the rest of us know how they’re doing in six months?

I take it this is different to the engineered good bacteria that colonise your mouth and out-compete the bad bacteria due to the lack of acidic waste? Finally it seems like medical science is looking after these fancy bones that insurance charges extra for on top of the entire rest of my body!

But most toothpastes are not antibacterial or antimicrobial.

Will this finally be the toothpaste that gets a 10/10 recommendation from the ten usual dentists? 🤔

As a new member of the gum disease sufferer in the US…this is very interesting. They were educating me about the bacteria involvement in gum disease.
Anyway, this piques my interest, so I googled it, and found it on ebay. I ordered two tubes, and I’ll let you this sub know if it arrives and looks legit. Delivery is quoted at 1-2 weeks.

Why doesn’t Germany have dental hygienists?

Peer reviewed studies would be nice

Doesn’t good bacteria come back within 30min or so? Is this needed?

Dentist here, this isn’t really going to do much as far as gum disease goes in the real world imo. In the real world gum disease is happening because people don’t floss and don’t brush well enough to prevent calculus (tartar) from forming. That calculus harbors toooooons of bacteria, and it will form in places that tooth paste is really not going to get down into. The bacteria love it so much because it’s a bit porous, which gives lots of hidey holes for stubborn bacteria.
I think that this will help the average human, but I sincerely doubt that it will stop gum disease.

Yeah that’s not coming to the the US without a pricey tag, or can only be used by your dentist and won’t be covered by your insurance for whatever reason

semen contains a natural microbiome that includes probiotic bacteria, particularly Lactobacillus species… I’ll leave this here for the scientists
