„I want an economy that creates fewer trillionaires and more millionaires. I want people to succeed,“ he said. „Call me crazy, but I think your average working Texan should pay less in federal income taxes than your average billionaire.“

MAGAhats will reject this because it’s contrary to the lies they’ve gone along with for the last decade. The Oligarchs who now own the hearts and feebel minds of the KAGAhats will be stepping up their lies as people realize Telarico and many others are on to something visavie taxing the rich and helping the poor.

I love this tax plan. Closing big tax loopholes and pointless tax breaks.

Edit: to those who say his tax plan isn’t what I said:

including abolishing write-offs for the purchase of luxury items and restricting the use of offshore bank accounts to avoid federal taxes.

If a tax break isn’t the same thing as a write off then fine, I like that he’s ending that tho.

And “ the use of offshore bank accounts to avoid federal taxes” IS LITERALLY A TAX LOOPHOLE.

Edit 2: changed “no tax loopholes” to closing a big tax loophole. I don’t know all the tax loopholes, but I know that offshore bank acccounts to prevent paying federal taxes is a huge one. So I’m glad he supports closing that.

It’s certainly a position that will speak to Democratic voters, and why MAGA finds it offensive is beyond my understanding. Talarico has a narrow opportunity to win in Texas. It seems to me like he’s going to need a very motivated Democratic base and a de-motivated right. His hope might not be found in converting a Trump voter, but in getting them to just sit it out.

This is something everyone should be able to agree on. Thank you, yes, JT!

  6. Can we all just pay a percentage of U.S. income tax equal to the percentage of U.S. income + wealth growth that belongs to us? I don’t know how the numbers break down now, but the people that make 90% of American wealth gains should pay 90% of American taxes.

  7. Got my disagreements with him about some very important things, and wasn’t my first choice in the primary. But I hope he wins. Texas deserves better than any of the Republican choices.

Billionaires shouldn’t exist. It’s not about envy or greed…it’s about no individual should control that amount of power over the people and be subject to zero accountability.

    Here is my proposal

    Ideas

    1. Get rid of the borrow-die-inherit loophole. I don’t know the solution, maybe like personal loans used for general purpose cannot count towards debt in estate planning. Or general debt taken out should be taxed at income level.
    2. Very high property tax for non-occupied investment properties (2nd home) owned by corporations and individuals.
    3. Significantly increase capital gain tax.
    4. Heavily scrutinized 501c organizations. Some are basically tax heaven money laundering companies.

As for simplifying the taxes and budget on federal level, I have a more radical idea: Get rid of most extra tax deductions/credits and welfare programs (including Medicaid Medicare Snap, child support, housing support, SALT deduction, pretty much any personal deductions) in favor of a huge standard deduction (like 40k per adult, 20k per child, adjustable each year with inflation). This is basically the money you spent each year for basic living. They are some exceptions of course for welfare for those who cannot work due to disability, job loss where you temporarily qualify for some checks.

How about we change the laws to pay people closer to what they actually earned rather than transferring the money they earned to billionaires, unearned. Will MAGA object to being paid the money they earned?

I’m for this but I do think we need to frame this as ‘more and equitable taxation rates’ or something.

It’s a tax for the elites and for the 1%. One thing the Dems have to get batter at is naming things for the morons out there. Here is an example Affordable Care act or Obamacare. That is why so many that depend on it want it gone. Its name was shit and when the GOP called Obamacare it was easy for simple people to hate. They should have called it Freedomcare or Ruralcare or some other dumb shit.

So a wealth tax is now an elite tax. Or the Love America tax. If you don’t think this is correct I promise you aren’t listening to the magas at all.

  13. Trump said if we wanted public services like childcare and healthcare states need to raise their taxes.

Run that clip as you roll out wealth taxes and showcase what people will get out of it. Trump said! So here ya go.

  14. Unironically: Talarico for pres. I’ve been cheering for this dude for a couple years now. He’s pretty solid.

Just eliminate their loopholes. If we got what we should get from their taxes, that would be quite a lot.
