> “Get rid of the endless advertising and substantially shorten the long pre-shows,” Rothman said on stage at the Colosseum while teasing Sony’s upcoming slate.
> He noted that frequent moviegoers now show up a half hour late to avoid all the spots (something that reserved seating has made possible). Rothman said that means many people “don’t even see the trailers” which means these “enticements [have] gone to waste.”
I don’t even leave my house until the start time.
My local amc is up to 45 minutes, its just plain disrespectful
This is no joke. The last movie I went to the theater to watch, didn’t start until 35-40 mins after the start time!
Keep the movie trailers and get rid of the non movie advertisements
And lower the price of concessions
I agree but I’m pretty sure the theater owners would clap back and say fine we’ll cut back ads if you give us a more favorable box office split.
One of the many reasons I don’t bother going to the theater and wait a couple of months tops for the home release. They don’t respect my time
I actually like trailers, but I hate ads and *really* hate the one-two punch of the Coke ad and Nicole Kidman ad that AMC plays *after* the trailers.
Id give my first born child to never see that fucking AMC Coca Cola ad they’ve been running since 2002 ever again
Good luck with that 🫡
I just hate having enough trailers and ads that I forget what movie I’m actually seeing is before it actually starts.
The limit should be three movie trailers and three other commercials max.
With how long movies are getting these days you’re looking at 3 hours in a seat. I saw Project Hail Mary today and I had to use the restroom twice during the movie. If they’re going to show 30 minutes of ads, might as well add a 10-15 minute intermission in the middle. Hell, show more ads during it, but maybe I wouldn’t miss part of the actual movie then.
he’s right.. the ads piss me off
i miss the arclight chain. they had 2 trailers tops. $15 yearly membership got you 2 free tickets around your birthday, 2 free tickets to special shows they would do, 10% off concessions, $1 off every movie ticket.
Uh shut up, I love trailers
I arrive at my seat 30 minutes after the advertised „showtime“.
Says the studio charging theater well beyond what a film is worth
Did you know theaters are down the cost of renting the film if it bombs?
I love the hypocrisy of a greedy studio head asking theaters to reduce ad revenue steams while charging a theater stupid prices to show their film.
How about both sides yield so everyone can benefit Mr Studio boss
Don’t get me wrong, I refuse to go to a theater with ads. Regal and AMC are blacklisted on my roaster. But I understand why they have to.
The theater I manage has only fifteen minutes of trailers/ ads. Normally about four trailers and two ads. It gets annoying when people show up thirty minutes after the start time and find out the movie is already fifteen minutes in.
I like the trailers. I dont like the 45 min of commercials
I’m always bored and ready to leave by the time the movie starts. There’s been times I forgot what I was actually there to see.
I love trailers. It’s the other bullshit I could do without. But my local theater closed, so I understand you do what ya gotta do to pay the bills.
Seeing Mario with my 5 year old was brutal. Nearly 40 minutes of trailers. That’s a lot of time to add, especially for a movie drawing kids.
I’d rather just not be charged 20 bucks for a popcorn and drink
Stop charging me $10 for a large soda and 20 for popcorn and I’ll watch all the ads you want
Also- they don’t have double features or social promotions for theatres like they used to. I remember the thrill of the double feature and you had to get tickets ahead of time. It was an EVENT! Theatre owners are lazy
Could not agree more. That extra 30 minutes has definitely become a factor in my decision to go to the theater, on weekdays in particular. Even the trailers have become 6 too many. And, man, I used to love trailers. Now it’s like „For fucks sake.. another indie horror film about a creepy child?“
Took my kids and were there a few minutes early not realizing how out of control it has gone. The kids were obviously bored for 20+ minutes of ads.
In China movies start precisely on time. No commercials, no trailers. On time. Every time.
I have to take a piss before the movie even starts. Twice.
finally someone said it 😭
i swear i’ll sit through 20 minutes of trailers thinking it’s about to start and then they hit me with more ads like i didn’t already pay to be there 💀
I took my daughter to see Dune and it was 45 minutes of shit before the film.
Fuck that…I have a comfy couch, a nice tv, and a good sound system. I think I pissed twice before the movie started
ads sure, trailers? fuck no
Honestly, we all know commercials and trailers are gonna be the 30-minute+ precursor to a film and choose to just show up a bit later.
Cutting commercials and trailers isn’t going to magically make the whole movie-going experience better if people are just being fucking obnoxious as fuck in theaters still. My wife and I saw Project Hail Mary last Sunday and during an intense and quiet af scene, someone’s phone was going off. People were just talking throughout.
Sure, I can go report it, but how much of a movie I genuinely want to see am *I* now going to miss because people just don’t care to have a modicum of respect or politeness?
The world fucking sucks, people don’t have empathy any longer and think rules/respect/politeness are a fucking joke now. Now you also have to deal with influencers making their videos and shit too (anybody remember the Minecraft “Chicken chaser” bullshit?).
That’s why people don’t go to the movies as much anymore.
I’m fine with trailers but the commercials are ridiculous
But then I would need to get there on time… I like the ads as long as they are movie trailers…but we choose how many to watch… By the time I’m doing buying hotdogs and soda and sit down maybe watch 2 or 3? Isn’t everyone else doing that? That’s what it looks like to me at least here in Miami.
That theater is empty at the advertised starting time.
The most baffling thing to me is 5-6 ads promoting THE THEATER YOURE ALREADY IN. Yes, thank you for the 6 minutes combined of telling me how Im in a Regal theater!
It’s insane, they’re fighting for their lives to compete with people staying home and watching content on streaming instead, then they make the actual moviegoing experience as unpleasant and cumbersome as possible. Im in LA and it’s *twenty five minutes* of trailers, car insurance, and automobile ads. Fuck’s sakes…
I’m obviously in the minority, but I genuinely hate the trailers. I feel like by the time I’ve had to see all the tv trailers, the YouTube trailers, the trailers before the movies, and all the trailers everywhere else, I’ve seen 3/4 of the movie, and every surprise has been ruined. It absolutely kills the whole experience for me.
