  1. They are replacing it with literal paid programming. I called it that they would just air Comics Unleashed but didn’t anticipate that Byron Allen would pay them for the privilege

I love stand up and the concept is cool but anytime I’ve caught Byron Allen’s shows, it’s third rate comics and they’re all hacky. Just my opinion.

I don’t who this replacement guy is, but I’m never going to find that out or ever watch him on general principle.

  4. No that’s not it. They don’t want to offend the orange one or he would do something stupid like revoke their broadcasting license.

It’s long established that reality bullshit is stupidly cheap to produce and the idiot public eats it up.

  6. We’re long past the days of Johnny Carson anyway. If Late Night Shows in their current format are dying, let them die.

  7. The nets are hoping that terrestrial tv remains relevant for a while longer. Twenty years ago the idea that there would be an alternative to the broadcasters was unthinkable. They thought they were untouchable.

I’ll bet they’d love to be out of it if they could find a buyer, but nobody wants terrestrial tv just now.

Who knows ? Maybe a new tech will emerge and make the channels (as) valuable again.

I’ve seen the show. It’s just a bunch of comics spitting out random material. There’s no real improv and no real discussion. I love comedy and I wanted to love this show.

Comics Unleashed was the show I woke up to at 3 am after falling asleep watching Showtime at the Apollo. It’s literally just filler.

I’ve watched a lot of standup comedy over the past 30 years, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard of Byron Allen.

If he’s truly as unfunny as others are saying, surely CBS could have gotten someone solid that can carry a late night show.

Or if they truly wanted to get someone that is liked by MAGA as well as regular public, couldn’t they get Theo Von or Shane Gillis?

I’m not convinced either would make for a better late night show than a veteran like Colbert, but they’re both charismatic, funny, popular and enough of a change of pace that I think people would tune in early on out of curiosity.

Whitney Cummings could pull it off as well, while also being able to seperate from the rest of the pack of middle aged white dudes (no offense to any of them, just highlighting the demographics reality).

Jim Jeffries also had a funny late night show on CC for a minute that reminded me a little bit of old Craig Ferguson. I could see him being good on CBS, but his humor can be a bit risqué sometimes and is obviously also a white dude in same demographic as the rest.

Side note, it is a little bit strange that in a diverse country with over $350 million people, yet the top late night comedy shows that come to mind, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Myers, Stephen Colbert John Stewart, John Oliver & Greg Gutfield (who according to him, is a “comedian”, and “Gutfield” is technically a late night comedy show- so technically counts)

I remember when I was a kid, Arsenio had a late night show competing with Letterman and Leno for a minute, so I think we are long overdue for having some better variation with late night comedy shows

  11. it’s essentially syndicated style content. the same d list comics you see doing the circuit. no offense I may enjoy a lot of them. but the format is just bland, safe, predictable, about what you would expect from say Hollywood squares. serviceable as an alternative to ridiculousness being on while you wait at a dealer. if comic entertainment aired at a gas station pump display, it would be Byron Allen.

    “Comics” Leashed.

This is the watershed moment. Talk shows will soon go the way of Blockbuster.

Johnny retired and is gone. Dave retired. Jay retired (he was never a fav of mine). Conan retired after several stops. *Craig Ferguson retired (can’t believe I neglected him first time… he was tremendous). The less said about James Corden the better*

The rest of the current crop on network TV… Jimmy Kimmel will retire/get pushed out. Jimmy Fallon may be able to hang on for a while simply because of the name of the show he’s on. Each will be replaced with mindless cheap drivel that will add nothing to the airwaves, but will be bland and boring and “safe” for advertisers.

Late night is dead. Pour one out for the memories.

Edit: added a great host and a terrible host.

White people love Byron Allen because he makes Bryant Gumbel look like Malcolm X.

CBS is good with nobody watching that show just so long as the production company is paying them to air it. The production company is the ones trying to sell advertising during that show. Expect to see many local car dealership ads….

  15. Damn, did MAGA really just replace a white man with a black man and call it good?

Would this be that awful DEI that was so bad Trump had to threaten multiple companies?

How very Woke of them to give us black comedy!

Wild, they’re really outdoing making us great again!

Byron’s show is considered corny by nearly every comedian but they also wanted to be on it. As corny as it is, it plays very well to middle america. I wish Colbert would still have a show but this is a good idea from the networks pov.

Letterman is part of the false messaging now? It has nothing to do with money – it has to do with muzzling dissent. Letterman is such a tool.
