A B.C. lawyer has agreed to not practice law anywhere in Canada for a decade, after admitting to a string of misconduct allegations that included fabricating documents and improperly handling trust funds.
Rajesh Soni admitted to 19 separate misconduct allegations in an undertaking posted by the Law Society of B.C. earlier this month.
They included faked letters, purportedly from government agencies like Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the B.C. Vital Statistics Agency (VSA), and even falsifying the stamps used by courts and using other lawyers‘ jurat stamps without permission.

Wow. Dishonesty sounds like a terrible quality in an officer of the court
At the same time, I’ve heard from several law enforcement officers and lawyers that it is very easy for people working in those fields to become disillusioned with the legal system. They say that, too often, they see bad things happen to good people and bad people get off without consequences. Apparently, after awhile, it can feel like a game where the only rule that matters is whether you got away with something. It sounds like a specialized form of burnout of which those in the field should be aware so they can monitor and provide support

Why just 10 year sanction and not loss of license?

So… he committed fraud to cover up how epically incompetent he was. Too bad the competent frauds don’t get caught. This story gave me second hand embarrassment.

Rajesh Soni, along with many others like him, do not respect our laws in Canada! When you start seeing lawyers, judges, and politicians show zero respect for our laws or the interests of Canadian citizens while holding respected careers in society like these, it proves Canada is becoming a cesspool for the lawless on every level. When is Canada going to wake up?!
