Both sides core interests are their leverage over the other so there’s little overlap for a deal. And until both have a similar expectation of how escalation plays out there’s not much room for negotiation.
Did America really go into these negotiations telling Iran upfront all the things they wanted, the issues where they would be able to wiggle, and the ones they wouldn’t budge on?
Because – I’m not any expert on negotiation so please correct me, but that sounds an awful lot like going into a game of poker by showing all your cards.
