Mit dem erfolgreichen Abschluss der Artemis-II-Mission würde ich gerne glauben, dass wir am Rande einer neuen Ära der Weltraumforschung stehen. Bei dieser Gelegenheit möchte ich allen zum Internationalen Tag der bemannten Raumfahrt gratulieren, oder wie wir ihn in Russland nennen: Tag der Kosmonautik! (Die Kosmonauten)

Yuri Gagarin. Just thought his name should be mentioned.
I have to ask, why didn’t you include his name with the picture?
This is Soviet Cosmonaut Юрий Гагарин (Yuri Gagarin), the first person in outer space.
When my dad was a kid in Sri Lanka, Yuri Gagarin visited his village and even shook his hand, while my dad was sitting on his dad’s shoulders.
He says that moment stuck with him for life, and is probably a big part of why he went into physics.
This comes across as Russian cope or anti-American propaganda considering the singular achievement of our Artemis crew by NASA
Cool, Yuri was the first, he set a trend and started a space race that will benefit all of mankind, one America has been in the lead of for a very long time

First one that we *know of*. I sometimes wonder if there were others who just didn’t make it back alive.
Always boogles my mind humanity went from this to landing on the moon 8 years later. And the first powered flight was only in 1903.

I recommend the book “Two Sides of the Moon” by Dave Scott (Apollo 15 commander) and Alexei Leonov (first EVA). Leonov and Gagarin were friends and Leonov has some great stories about him.
