I’m not so sure that this will be enough to satisfy those who protested

Crumbs being offered, it’s not good enough. Their time is up!

    3. Much larger package than was expected. Dunno how sustainable it will be to maintain in long term.

There is plenty involved in these protests now who fuel doesn’t really effect, they are just serial protestors and they don’t give a damn what the government hand out, they will still be out and about tomorrow, the government really should have acted before giving the opportunity for these people to get involved.

Wow 10 whole cents? Thank you so much, Irish government you’re the real mvps. FF and FG – keeping it real since 1922.

And it took them an entire week to come up with that? Geniuses the lot of them I say they deserve a bonus.

If I said what I really want them to receive (and it’s not a bonus) I’d probably be banned from here so I’ll refrain.

Even with cuts, what will the excise & carbon tax be in 2026 versus last year.

Look at that a few small measure costing half a billion euro. There’s a limited amount that can be done without upending the national finances or significantly backtracking on existing policies.

There’s probably a bit more yet to come but obviously they won’t talk about that specifically today.

    8. Motorways blocked, emergency services severely affected, and the average Joe left on the runabout looking for fuel.

For the non-agri protesters – ye went to all that trouble for just 10c. 👍

    9. redrover1978- on

Dumb Q but is the 10 cent on top of what it was originally reduced by?

    10. I assume everyone here who opposed the protests will be donating the 10c per litre they’ll be saving every time they fill up their tank to charity?

Edit: Didn’t think so. You’ll happily put your hand out and take it

    11. How accurate are the costings on this? VAT (all vat) raises 23bn, Excise (on all items subject to excise) 6bn, carbon tax is about 1bn… hard to see how these cuts come to half a bn.

    12. Petrol/Diesel has probably gone up by that over the last few days. Doubt those out protesting are going to be overly happy with that

    13. Supply side issue being dealt with by a tax cut. This will make the problem worse.

    14. Holy crap, such small measures are going to cost half a billion.

Just goes to show utterly farcical some of the protester requests were. They would bankrupt the nation just to save a few quid at the forecourt

    15. King Cnut holding back the tide.

This will be swallowed up by the coming increases in crude and prices will still be higher.

Right and is there a long term plan to get absolutely away from oil/gas, its completely unstable and we cannot continue to live like this every few years a massive shock and we are upended.

I went to get petrol the other day as the fuel light was on for about a day due to no petrol being available in my town. When I finally found fuel at one petrol station they had put it up by almost 10 cents a litre compared to before the protests. So the protests helped increase the price of petrol in my situation. Good ol Ireland. Couldn’t make it up.

    18. I’m not sure how sustainable this is but the protestors, at least in the short term, seem to have got what they want.

    19. metalmessiah88 on

Is it actually costing them €505. Billion or are the citing future losses by offsetting the carbon tax increase

    20. Hoping to be corrected on that assumption but orange man new strategy and his blockade will sure make markets go up in some way that this agreement will be rendered useless

    21. Erocsrednu_ on

Nobody will benefit from it cus every tank in the country is full to the brim🤣🤣

But the time there’s space the price of oil.will have gone up after the US and Iran negotiations came to nothing😅

    22. This is completely pointless, watch both increase by 10c tomorrow, price cut Tuesday and the company’s keep the money and we still pay the same

    23. SouthLeast8143 on

A 10c decrease on full be blocked by both Iran and the US from getting here. Great job everyone

    24. We’ll see which ones accept it and which ones don’t. I’m trying to see any info I can about it (whether it’s being accepted or if it’ll bring an end to the main protests, but there’s so many reports out there.

    25. Franz_Werfel on

      This is so stupid.

The protesters have proof now that you can strongarm the government now blocking roads.

The state is subsidising fuel retailers with more public money.

      The oil companies are laughing.
