So we can guess that when the Himalayas haven’t formed yet millions of years ago, the northern side of that area was much more lush and green back then.

That also happens in South America. The Andes prevent Pacific air masses from reaching Western South America. That makes for different dynamics especially in winter, and also makes the Atacama Desert possible.

Without the Himalayas, the entire Indian subcontinental landmass would be as dry as the Sahara – and just as desert-y, if not worse.
