  1. While brain drain is a serious problem, this is such a non-serious solution. „Hmmm people are leaving for better opportunities, lets make them pay to do so!“ Are you insane

I have a better idea; maybe stop strangling innovation in this country with a near nihilistic lack of support for startups so educated Canadians have something to do up here.

I mean the USA has an exit tax. It can’t just be some flat rate though.

Wouldn’t this simply deter people from seeking an education here?

With a knock on effect of increasing tuition fees when enrollments decline?

    It’s behind a paywall so I didn’t read it all. I

I’m general there is something to it although I’m not sure charging a 500k exit fee is the answer. On the other hand, should we as taxpayers be substdising foreign economies by freely educating their work force?

I don’t know the solution but making sure people in certain high demand fields stay a certain amount of time after their education isn’t a bad idea… I.e Dr’s.

I think there are least needs to be a debate around the subject.

My take: „Tech CEO that refuses to wage pitches to party of wage-suppression new scam in order to prevent having to raise salaries to match their US compeitors in war for talent.“

University ia subsidised, canadians pay less than foreign students because canadian taxes are paying for that education.

So in a sense if a doctor or nurse gets a full subsidised education in canada and then goes to work somewhere else canadians have paid taxes to support that education and recieved nothing in return.

Canada also benefits from this happening in other countries, people get their educations in poorer countries and then come to canada for higher pay, effectively robbing those countries.

I feel like the real problem is that universities are spending a ton of money to produce very few nurses and doctors.

We need to find a way to produce more graduates more effeciently.

An exit fee is not the solution.

  8. Okay, the country that has done the worst by its youth are basically promising to charge them if they exit an exorbant sum.

Also, pre or post paid because realistically it just makes leaving Canada and saying fuck my student loans all the more attractive, and I dont see how they would do this if the person left the country under false pretenses.

I know a doctor that left for Japan because housing in BC was that unaffordable.

Canada needs to do more for its youth and young professionals, if the best they can do is a 500k exit tax, its clear they have no interest in meaningfully changing things.

This old man left the country two decades ago, maybe he should lead by example and pay back the government first.
