Reform slammed for getting name of council wrong on leaflets ahead of local election
The leaflets were due to be distributed in South Tyneside ahead of the local election, which takes place next month

Reform UK have been slammed for getting the name of a North East council wrong ahead of the local election. The political party referred to South Tyneside Council as „South Shields Council“ in a leaflet which they posted a picture of on social media.

The leaflet, which appeared on the Reform UK – South Shields Facebook page, aims to introduce people to their three candidates standing for the Beacon and Bents ward. It says: „South Shields Council is broken. Vote Reform UK to fix it“.

Reform said their branch had planned to mass distribute the leaflets to people in the area but will no longer be issuing them. Rival political parties have criticised Reform for the mistake.

All 54 seats at the local authority will be up for election – three in each ward – on May 7 following changes to the ward boundaries in South Tyneside. Voters can vote for up to three candidates on the ballot paper.

A Labour spokesperson said: „This sums Reform up. They don’t even know which council they’re trying to be elected to, let alone what their plan is for residents across South Tyneside. Only Labour has a track record of positive change and only Labour have a plan for the future, delivering renewal and strengthening communities across South Tyneside.“

David Francis, for South Tyneside Greens, said: „As Greens, we take our role as elected councillors extremely seriously and this is partly why our support has been growing year on year in South Tyneside.

„Councils are responsible for essential duties including children’s services, safeguarding and adult social care. If Reform can’t even get the name of the council right, how can the people of South Tyneside have any confidence in them to deliver what our communities desperately need?“

A spokesperson for Reform UK said: „The branch took a photo of their leaflets before beginning to mass distribute them. These will not be issued and the Facebook page is being updated.“

All they know is Stop the Boats and Blame minorities. They don’t know anything else, like for example, names of what they’re apparently campaigning for.

I bet they demand immigrants speak fluent English, despite most Reform voters having most likely failed GCSE English themselves.
