As someone that’s been through the ceremony before, I know this is a really special day and I’m sorry to see it happen the way it is.

All the best for the next one in June and I hope you still have a good time in Killarney tomorrow for the break you had originally planned!

Aw that’s heartbreaking. Hopefully you’ll still have a celebratory day? Welcome to us!!

Well most of those making the most noise will regard this as a happy outcome unfortunately

    4. Massive congrats and welcome to you and your fellow would-be celebrants. Hoping you all get your big day out soon 🤞🏻🤞🏻

    5. That’s a damm shame. Always a great vibe around on the days when the citizenship ceremonies are on (even if the traffic on Muckross Road tends to get a bit hectic at times)

Sorry to hear that. However, they will reschedule and you’ll have your day in the Kerry sun 🌞

    7. I was about to pay for the hotel, just waited until the last minute and then got the email. Bummed about it too – I was waiting anxiously for it.

    8. This is absolutely heartbreaking. This is such a special day and means so much to the people taking part, I know because I was one of them a number of years ago.

    9. So sorry to hear that. I’m personally aware of how much this ceremony means to everyone attending. I got to attend one of these, it’s honestly a very emotional experience for everyone involved.

Take heart in the fact that this is just a delayed celebration, nothing more. You’ll still have your happy day, just have to wait a little bit longer.

    10. There are people who are in the same boat as you over on r/IrishCitizenship

Same here, really frustrated with the last minute cancellation. I was looking forward for the ceremony l, after all that I’ve been through since last year, I thought to myself, at last there’s something positive going to happen, but then again, another disappointment.

That’s really disappointing and unfair. Have a lovely time in Killarney. Go visit Murphy’s Ice-cream shop for a cheering up cone and I hope the ceremony is rescheduled soon.

Ive seen a good few of these events take place in the gleneagle, and from asking they look like incredible events.

Everyone looks really happy and having a great time.

Hopefully the weather will be nicer in June and ye will get a great day out.

Do you actually not get to become a citizen now until June? I always thought this bit was more ceremonial and that you’d officially be a citizen anyway.

Sorry to hear that, hopefully it goes ok in June and sure it’ll be June in no time.

    15. Firstly, congratulations and welcome. What a shame for you that the ceremony has been postponed. A good friend of mine had his ceremony a couple of years ago and it was a wonderful day for everyone involved.

It be would be nice to have a one in, one out special for this day. Offload one arsehole fuel protester for each of these new citizens who are proud to call themselves Irish.

I’m so sorry. A really good friend of mine became a citizen last year, I know how big a deal this is.

    17. I love that RTE news covers this each year, always such a good heartwarming piece. Something else ruined by those gobshites now!

I’m so sorry about this. You will hopefully get to have your wonderful day when things calm down. Our newly naturalised communities make such a massive contribution. You are the best of us and so delighted you will be getting to be a citizen. There will be very significant challenges in access to fuel in the coming days so while I recognise it’s so very disappointing to have it cancelled at such short notice, it’s the correct decision by Department of Justice in the current difficult circumstances.
