So now the future and security of a vital military base is in doubt because Trump got upset

    3. Honestly why are the government wasting so much political capital on this brain dead fucking deal. Take the fucking win stop doing anything and blame Trump.

Thank you Sir Nigel for bringing this treacherous betrayal to the attention of the greatest president in living memory 🙏

The right decision, but Labour should never have entertained it, nor the Conservatives before them.

    6. We didnt need Trump to see itws stupid, it was a Tory deal that they will no doubt attack Labour for.

How embarrassing. The correct decision, but this whole fiasco has made the government look like incompetent wet wipes on the world stage.

    8. Anybody wanna explain their opinion on why its a stupid deal to give back land that we took?

    9. We should just settle into our new position in the world, the empire has long gone, we left the EU, we don’t have the military or political talent to play Billy big bollocks anymore.

Put Chagos up for sale. If America want a base there they can buy it. If nobody buys it, shut the base and convert it into an asylum processing centre.

What exactly would the UN do? More harsh letters, they can’t even enforce Hezbollah disarming which has a resolution with 7000+ peacekeepers there, 20 years they been fiddling with binoculars doing sweet fa.

    10. The illusion of a rule based international system with some sort of agreed upon law has been shattere in the past 15 months… I guess it makes little sense for the UK to continue pretending by adhering to court rulings, especially when we were doing this as a favour to those who did the most to undo such world order.

A broken clock is right twice a day and all that, even if he was saying it for the wrong reasons it would be ridiculous for us to give it up

    12. Given the islands were uninhabited prior to colonisation and without regular supplies, the islanders would effectively be living a subsistence existence, maybe we should have campaigned fit the islands (minus Diego Garcia) to be an international protectorate with a similar status to Antarctica?

Wrong, Mauritius decided they didn’t recognise the agreement, KS had no choice but to pull out.

Well how much fucking taxpayer money was wasted with this already? There needs to be an inquest into this. The British government cant waste momey on this scale time amd time again. It has to be in the 10s of millions surely

    15. The only reason the government was making this arrangement is to try to maintain the value we get from trading access to the base to the Americans in return for strategic missiles like Polaris and Trident. I hope that we can sell Trump a lemon since he values ownership so much and transfer sovereignty directly to the Americans in return for something of significant value, but let’s see where it goes from here

Fucking finally. I’ve never seen a more obvious act of self harm by any government in my lifetime.

    17. Fair play – if they’ve come to the right decision they deserve credit where it’s due.
