As the country burns yet again, our „serious“ politicians will push for oil and gas expansion and a worsening of the conditions that are causing us to burn.

Canada never learns that it is the absence of fire that leads to the accumulation of flammable materials.

Waiting for the propaganda that this is really the result of poor forest management.
geardownbigrig on
We need serious investment in forest management to deal with this… burns have always been a cycle and we have built further into forest land than ever before but still do nothing to help mother nature with our move
EDIT: climate change is a factor. Im assuming that here and am talking about the need to manage forests more because of the other factors as well. I think its safe to take climate change as a ground truth like expanding into denser forested regions with dense housing

It’s time for Canada to start piping water between all the lakes to move fresh water from the north to the south. Every country on the planet should be preparing for droughts and water scarcity.
We have thousands of fresh water lakes in Canada. It’s time to start creating a system to move it around.
Edit***
Dunno why I’m getting downvoted, Canada should be preparing and setting up to avoid droughts and that’s downvote worthy?
That’s Crazy.

If only we spent money to buy fire bombers aircraft’s that are made in Canada… instead of sending billions of dollars overseas to other countries and the money to never be seen again.

Not to be alarmist, but to me this is the single biggest threat to our sovereignty. If the fires sufficiently piss off Trump and his puppet masters they would love to use it as an excuse to „help“…..but I don’t really mean „help“.

Just a matter of time before firefighting become a priority in this country.
We wont have a choice to invest in it massively.

The fires last year were arson. We have also been pulling funding from forestry services that maintain clear cuts and fire lines.

The cost of climate change is getting more expensive than the cost of transitioning away from fossil fuels.

Been wet as hell in Quebec this winter, so I’d be surprised if we get a very bad season here, but last year we had smoke glaze us for weeks all the way from Manitoba. Shits scary.

its pretty cute that people think these are still exceptional events.
this is normal now unless people stop disparaging climate change.
