since when did these companies start being for that?
wow, and here i thought anyone was even a tiny bit for privacy
nah, don’t pass that
Don’t let them win:

Big Tech: how DARE they stop us from indiscriminately scanning private chats to collect data and train our AI!!!!
From the article: In 2025, NCMEC received 21.3m reports that included more than 61.8m images, videos and other files suspected of being related to child abuse, from around the world. About 90% of these reports are related to countries outside the US.
And yet, not one says these are from Europe.
No better anti-endorsement than those companies attempting to scold Parliament for not passing Chat Control.
Because they don’t want EU to do right thing – regulate them. Estonian politician got it right.

Excellent reason not to (as if we needed another)
I don’t need more reasons to despise chat control
I would like to officially say that’s no fuck you very much.
If this was really about protection of children, we should make them responsible for the stuff that is posted on their platforms.
How do we not have laws that don’t hold them responsible?
And **THIS** is why chat control should be avoided!
> Years of tense negotiations lead to lapse of vital carve-out law
> For the past four years, the proposed child sexual abuse regulation has been under negotiation, with contention arising because it would obligate companies to take measures to minimise risks on their platforms, said Hannah Swirsky, head of policy and public affairs at the Internet Watch Foundation, a UK-based child safety non-profit.
The Internet Watch Foundation is an extremist anti-encryption and anti-privacy group who is heavily involved in lobbying for Chat Control. They constantly tell lies about how encryption backdoors and client side scanning is a „good thing“. The IWF needs to be permanently blacklisted from society worldwide.
> The scanning technology uses machine learning that performs pattern detection to identify known images or videos of abuse, as well as language associated with child exploitation, and does not store any data, said Emily Slifer, director of policy at Thorn, a non-profit that builds technology to detect online child abuse, which is commonly used by companies and law enforcement.
Thorn is literally an American tech company that is seeking to get rich off violating your privacy, while pretending to be a charity. They want to maximize profits and absolutely hate privacy.
Its absolutely insane that the article’s author is treating anyone from the IWF or THorn as a reputable source for anything related to Chat Control.
Err, this isn’t about chat control… wtf
Fuck all of these fucking companies
How dare they actually care about their proples privacy, ludicrous. Now they’re gonna go cry to daddy
Cry babies crying again?
If you need a single reason that it’s a very, very bad idea…
And this right here is the definitive proof that the whole initiative is bullshit.
Even while the debate was ongoing these past years I found the whole „protecting the children“ take a bit of a stretch.
The REAL thing I want to see now is if all the politicians who voted for this crap got something from the big tech corportations.
It’s not chat control like chat control.
If I’m correct this is about companies being able to voluntarily scan messages for illegal content so they can report it. The second version is about completely breaking any secure communication.
In my personal opinion, if company wants to do that, they should be allowed to do so (it they disclose it and their users agree to it). They are responsible for public image of their company, and they for sure don’t want harm being done on their platforms if it can be prevented. You are owner, so do whatever you want with your platform. I would not trust Facebook no matter what jurisdiction they are in. On the other hand, the second version of chat-control is meant to break trust in services that didn’t lose it themselves like Signal.
Guess what, the first version (that was already active) ended, while there are strong pressures within EU to make the second one reality.
Remember, companies nor politicians are your friends. They’ll do whatever it takes to get money and influence.
Lmao
that happens if you dont check companies, they get cocky and think they are running the show
