    1. Close to 200 bucks a year.

You can spend 1000 bucks a year just for streaming services nowadays. Crazy times..

    2. Of course they are. If you’re not sailing the high seas yet, you’re playing right into these mega corps hands. Boiling pot theory is real

    3. Brave browser blocks YouTube ads on iPhone and there are tons of ad blockers for desktop. There’s no reason anyone should be paying these inflated subscription costs.

    4. Sorry everyone. This is on me. I was just thinking last night that YTP hasn’t increased in a few years (or likely since I got it in 2020).

Make it 5 and I’ll take it. Anything higher is pointing me right back to smarttube and revanced

    6. If you hate this, remember that this is what’s going to happen with AI, too.

Once the companies need to keep raising profits, they will inevitably just… keep raising prices. They just need you to feel like the cost is something you have to pay. They need the market to depend on them, then the sky is the limit.

    7. I don’t really mind paying for Premium. YT is my most used streaming service by far and it’s not even close. I’d bin off Netflix or Shudder before I quit YT Premium.

    8. And despite that I still haven’t spent a single dime on it, and still don’t have to watch a single ad.

Unpopular opinion: It’s still worth it. I get 95% of my content on youtube and youtube music these days. There just isn’t a better alternative.

    10. I’m on the family. It’s been great but I’m done with Netflix and yt premium. They have lost it.

    11. Right on fucking time with their discission to run 90 second unskippable ads when watching YouTube on TV as well as running ads in embedded videos even if you have Premium.

    12. Needs to feed Google monster…. what if I just don’t go to YouTube anymore ?

    13. YouTube makes ads worse

      People: just get premium!

YouTube: hikes the price of premium

    14. You know what’s not raising their prices? BitTorrent.

The people leading the charge for enshitifcation must learn the formula for consumer engagement: if you make something more expensive, more difficult and more limiting than black market streaming or torrenting, consumer will follow the path of least resistance.

It’s amazing these Wharton brainiacs can’t realize the reason Netflix, Hulu and YouTube were so successful is because they were cheaper and easier for the average consumer over piracy. Now the takes turned again to where piracy is cheaper, easier, and an acceptable risk outweighs the subscription costs and hassle.

    15. Omg ffs guess im switching to tidal plus youtube premium light or just dropping it all together, 27 bucks for family is insane

Can we just not. Can’t anything be something other than Price hikes and cost increases and quarterly profit margins.

    17. I left once they went over $7.99 for premium. Never coming back at this rate.

I tried to play nice and subscribed instead of blocking ads. I guess all good deeds don’t go unpunished.
