Yeah, I think the war wasn’t about distracting from the files, but rather whoever is using the files as blackmail (Israel) recognizing that time was running out from Trump (either due to the files being fully released or otherwise) and they had to cash in their chips now.

The thing about blackmail is that the threat is useless if you follow through with it. It’s only value is if the blackmailed individual believes you will.

In this case, I could guess both Russia and Israel have the same dirt on the Trumps, and possibly other groups. The Trumps vary in their ability to withstand the pressure. Donald still has power he can offer in exchange, whereas Melania has nothing to offer these blackmailers other than remaining in her position at Donald’s ear.
