Ford cancelled 750 energy contracts when he took over, and he’s adding…14 now.

The reason these projects were previously cancelled by ford is because the Green Energy Act had a 20-year pricing system that paid producers by energy produced, and not energy produced and added to the grid. The pricing system started in 2006 and is ending this year. It was objectively a massive legislative failure.

The consequence of the pricing system is that wind or solar farm operators could produce energy and get paid for it even if the grid didn’t need it, so that is exactly what happened, and why wind became one of the most expensive energy sources in Ontario. Some of the early wind farms in Essex County and Chatham have to send surplus electricity to the states at a loss (the government pay Michigan to take the electricity) because of the pricing system.

That is why the original projects got cancelled. They didn’t want to pay a bunch of wind operators to keep scamming the system. Now that the pricing system has expired, they can build renewable capacity again.
