  1. its absolutely crazy watching carney take all these conservatives and get them to agree to the liberal agenda while everybody is insisting he is a conservative moving canada to the right

meanwhile the only thing ‚conservative‘ he is doing is cutting the spending of money we literally dont have

that being said – while i dont necessarily agree with avi i think this is exactly the sort of feedback the NDP should be giving

“When you vote for someone who represents a party” well there you go even the Leader of the Federal NDP agrees that people vote for the party and not the person.

And before everyone comments “ACCKKTUALLY YOU VOTE FOR THE PERSON AND NOT THE PARTY” no one actually votes like that.

People aren’t voting for Joe Smith because he’s Joe smith, they’re voting for the party he represents whether it be NDP, Liberal, CPC, ETC.

  3. Though I am not a PP or CPC fan, I understand and agree with Lewis to a degree. Are MPs crossing because they hate PP? Hate the CPC? Frustrated with the NDP? Like what the LPC is doing? Want to be on a ‚winning‘ team?

Crossing MPs are absolutely across the political spectrum (NDP to hard right-wing CPC members). Who’s next, PQ?

Well no shit. At least Trump got a clear mandate. Though I was hoping Nikki Haley would get the nomination so the republicans could have the first woman president and the democrats might go back to picking likeable candidates. The first women prime ministers in Canada and UK were both tories.

But this is the first time in this country where a government is buying a majority they couldn’t get at the ballots with backroom deals. In a country where elections are already mostly decided in the east before counting has started in the west. I’m at a loss to think of anything that we actually do better here.

floor crossing is undemocratic and Reddit would be pissed if we got a conservative majority this way. I voted for Carney so don’t reply giving me crap cause you don’t believe in democracy.

Kind of rich to be hearing that the NDP is discussing the disillusionment of Canadians. The previous party leadership really let us all down, which was reflected at the polls.

Taking a person who was PRO anti abortion laws.

Yeah you’ve lost me right there.

Just give us an election and let us decide.

I mean, that NDP conference has me starting to shift a little more right than I was before.

The floor crossing is just proving that politicians are out for themselves and not their constituents.

  9. Two party system is trash. Idc about crossing the floor, I want reps to vote for what’s best for their constituents… not clap like seals on command

Just wait until candidates run for the party most likely to win, then cross immediately.

While I don’t agree with many of his policies, I think Avi Lewis is spot on with this one. I’ve also been told that the federal NDP don’t accept floor crossers into their caucus anyways and that’s been a long standing policy.

  12. It just makes me wonder what the point of voting is… Let’s be honest with ourselves… most people aren voting for the person specifically in their riding, it’s the party and leader.

The floor crossing that we see going on just shows how greedy and selfish politicians are; they want to be on the team that has power. And people can deny all they want, but there is some major wheeling and dealing going on; our current PM works in the shadows and secrecy and doesn’t care about ethics, just power, and he is building a majority stacked with like-minded dangerous clowns.

Canada is in a lot of trouble.

People will continue to fully support this government no matter how less affordable and how cut off from the government that represents us gets. It’s easier to pretend to believe the banker and his friends are going to help the country; the alternative is admitting they themselves are just ignorant and have not a clue.

  14. I think this should trigger a by election immediately.

But at the same time, conservatives complaining about this need to look in the mirror. Your movement and your party are falling apart because a healthy chunk of you decided to worship the orange pedophile down south and tried to import that style of politics here to Canada and Canadians were never gonna have it. Clean up your act and pull your heads out of your asses or you will never win again

    Canada:
Gov. Monopoly on weed, liquor, housing and car insurance and now the gov. Unelected.
A few banks, a few telecoms, one grocery store.

    Not a communist country?

Carney is basically sabotaging any reason NDP voters might have had to vote strategically for the Liberals. This is a gift for Lewis and the NDP. The whole point of voting strategically was to keep quacks like Gladu away from power.

I’m definitely disillusioned with the Liberal party. If they actually stood for the center-left or even centrist values they regularly market themselves on, they would be telling Marilyn Gladue exactly where she could stuff her conversion therapy and abortion restrictions. Instead they welcomed her. It’s clear that if you are not a social conservative, only one party can be trusted to keep the social conservatism out, and it’s the NDP.

  18. PoliteCanadian on

I have no problem with floor crossing. Just make it a rule that any time a sitting MP changes their party registration, a by-election is automatically called.

The MP was elected under the banner of the party, so the voters should have an opportunity to sign off on their decision to change parties. It is a material change of facts that undermines the democratic legitimacy of the MP.

  19. Probably-MK on

Floor crossing limits the power a party and party leadership have over MPs and it’s basically for that reason alone I support it. Are we learning any real lessons from the south?

  20. BettinBrando on

This is the MP that had dinner with the freedom convoy, was anti-vax, opposed Marijuana legalization, anti-abortion, and mocked and criticized the previous floor crossers… and people actually think she wasn’t bought off or given some sort of incentives? Lol!..

  21. Prometheus7917 on

Let’s be honest Marilyn crossing the floor and being accepted by the Liberals disillusioned Canadians on floor crossing….
