Considering the threats we’ve made against him, that is absolutely the right decision.

Who had „US Dalai Lama’s the Pope“ on their bingo cards for this year?

  3. Wonderful-Pause1048 on

The Pope is sending a clear message; he is distancing himself from T. And rightly so: two people couldn’t be more at odds with each other.

  4. FalstaffsGhost on

I mean he was threatened and trump believes he can just have people killed so….yeah I wouldn’t either.

If MAGA admin can push away the Catholic coalition even more, that’d be great! The number of single issue (abortion) voter catholics I know would singlehandedly cause the „blue tsunami“

  6. Ugh-screen-name on

Maybe the pope should let his flock know that stopping the right to abortion is mot the only issue to consider when voting.

I know far too many „devout“ Catholics who will listen to Trump over the Pope .

Social media is toxic. Now the US is insane.  It’ll kill us all, if not by oil shock then by climate damage.

Oil tankers travel at the speed of a bicycle, so the shock is delayed, but now inevitable. And it’s not just oil. It turns out it’s fertilizer, it’s plastics, it’s helium for semi-conductors, it’s jet fuel for summer vacations.

The inflation caused by the COVID subsidies and supply chain disruption will pale in comparison.

Meanwhile the US president makes billions in the stock market by driving the oil price up and down and the US military pays $500M per day for him to do it.

Any idea if Trump pushed Hesgeth to do this instead of the State Department or if Hesgeth just decided all on his own?

    >This Trump guy says FUCK YOU to everyone – regardless of race, creed, religion, political affiliation, etc. – who doesn’t show absolute fealty and loyalty to him but…I’m sure he’s got my best interests in mind.

In 50 years there will be a new entry in the DSM for MAGA, and entire textbooks and university courses will be devoted to analyzing the above quoted „logic.“

Trump is the reason there is an American pope.

The Catholic church is so convinced that Trump is the Anti-Christ they’ve chosen an American pope.

  12. That’s the diplomatic thing to do, but politically, having the white house attacking the Pope would be a powerful juxtaposition that would highlight how immoral and evil our current administration is.

He should come. Evil should be confronted.

So consider this…. Pope Leo is the first American pope. American. He’s a citizen of the US. Yet again Trump is threatening US citizens. There’s plenty of US bishops in the Vatican including out last one in Dallas, bishop Farrell.

Hey, maybe get the vice president to smooth things over. I heard he’s a devout catholic now. Should be taken care of with a quick phone call. No problem.

  15. Top-tier trolling would be for the Pope to quietly visit Chicago and pray outside the Broadview detention facility, take the Borealis to Minneapolis, and meet with faith leaders and community organizers there.

Kegsbreth literally threatened the Vatican if they didn’t get on board with his and Trump’s warmongering

    Fucking death cult

  17. If he visited the USA, he’d probably get deported the moment he stepped off Vatican One.

Or maybe he’s thinking: „1/3 of you voted for — as Tucker suggests — the anti-christ and another 1/3 of you couldn’t be bothered to vote at all — you’re lost little lambs; cozying up to the wolves.“

The Trumpists threatened Leo’s life. No shit. (meeting confirmed by the Department of Defense, FYI)

The Avignon papacy began with France’s King Philip IV kidnapping the pope – a month later, he died after being beaten. Elbridge Colby is an open Tradcath, the kind of Catholic who’s hated the past two popes. The message was crystal clear – MAGA threatened the pope’s physical safety and, more broadly, the Catholic Church itself.

In Martin Scorsese’s „Kundun“, a young Dalai Lama visited Mao in Beijing. Mao leaned over pleasantly and whispered directly into his ear „religion is poison“, making it very clear what Mao’s intentions were – get in line or else. Tell me the difference between this and what apparently actually happened in the Pentagon.

The mob boss mentality of the people running America can only be cured by hard prison time.

I wonder if this is the right time to bring the concept of excommunication back from the fourteenth century.

Threatening to essentially abduct the pope and hold him hostage until he either gets on board with Trump or gets replaced by someone who does. If this isn’t antichrist behavior I don’t know what is.

  21. Condottiero_Magno on

This article doesn’t mention details of the contentious meeting. A Pentagon official made threats:

    >One U.S. official present at the meeting brought up the Avignon papacy, a period in the 14th century in which the French monarchy bent the Catholic Church into submission, ordering an attack on Pope Boniface VIII that led to his downfall and subsequent death and forcing the papacy to relocate from Rome to Avignon, a region inside France.

[Pentagon Threatened the Pope After He Criticized Trump](https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/pentagon-threatened-pope-criticized-trump-212552754.html)

The Avignon Papacy led to the Western Schism, so Con Orange’s lackeys are threatening to detain the pope. I’m surprised the idiot knew about the Avignon Papacy and not emulating what China did with the Dalai Lama.

  22. He’s an American citizen lol. He’s choosing to protest trump and I respect that

It is still so unhinged and Orwellian to me that we have a War Department.

  24. dreamyblondie on

It’s telling that Pope Leo chose to spend July 4th with African migrants instead of celebrating America’s 250th anniversary with Trump. The symbolism is powerful and deliberate. While Trump threatens to wipe out entire civilizations on social media, the Pope is literally embodying Christian values by serving the most vulnerable.

  25. BleachedUnicornBHole on

Calling that meeting a disaster is an understatement. The Pentagon literally threatened military action against the Vatican.

  26. Unfair_Letter_9644 on

I’m sure the T administration will deny this conversation took place or say that the Vatican misinterpreted their remarks. I wonder what Pope Leo’s brother (a Trump supporter) thinks of the threat on his life. Will it sway him or cause him to speak out?

The pope made the right decision. He has a world of Catholics to look after and plenty of places to visit where leaders will welcome him.

  27. Curious-Emu3894 on

Anyone on Trump’s side is a traitor to one’s faith, and humanity as a whole. Trump is devil incarnate. The Pope would be doing the right thing by not engaging with the Hitler wannabe, and denounce him entirely..
