Thats about 6 graphs more than I need to be able to tell Doug Ford is not a fiscal conservative. Im not even sure fiscal conservatives exist anymore in politics beyond branding themselves as such in name only to try and poach centrist votes from the liberals.

We don’t even need to stop there. Doug Ford isn’t even a Conservative. I’ve said this before but he doesn’t really align with any party, he’s just himself. It’s part of why he’s been so successful in Ontario.

Partisan politics have become such an exhausting and unappealing circle jerk about ideological purity. Other than making a passing note at the end about Covid and Trump tariffs, which are very salient reasons to run deficits, the author is much more concerned about talking about money spent, not about why. No one really cares if you think Doug Ford spent a little too much money if he did it for the right reasons, which begs for an entirely different and more substantive debate. I don’t think I am the only person who’s tired of this type of bullshit either given the popularity of the non-partisan and relatively centrist approach to governing employed by Carney.

„Fiscally conservative“ politicians haven’t existed for like 50+ years. People are still voting for those parties based on some long bygone ideal that exists only in their minds.

No one who talks about it is! That’s the whole point, if they actually cared about reducing the deficit they would be creating government owned productive enterprise, or nationalizing resources, or cutting the absurd amount of consultants in the government. But they don’t, instead they sell off state assist to make a quick buck, and then campaign on why everything’s shit despite making it shit!
