Michalakis Sofokleous starb sofort.

    A native killed by Barbarians.

The Cyprus peace operation…..where entire communities ethnically cleansed, mass rape, torture and settlement by imported aliens.

What does this remind you of in current world events?

  2. He was the first of 7 soldiers killed on duty: https://www.reporter.com.cy/article/234825/oi-ethnofroyroi-poy-dolofonithikan-sti-nekri-zoni-apo-toyrkoys-stratiotes

I find it strange and frustrating that all these incidents were one-sided. No reports of Turkish or TC soldiers being killed or wounded (post-1974).

It indicates that GC soldiers are maybe more naive or careless, but also that the Greek/GC army leadership is less willing to commit murder and potentially start a new conflict.

One could argue this is a more ethical stance, or even a wise strategy, because it avoids mass casualties. But if I were a friend or family of one of those 7, I would probably feel very angry at the total lack of justice or repercussions.

  4. Can’t believe I haven’t heard of this case before, very sad. I haven’t been able to find any English articles about this when googling.

  5. When we were in the army (GC) they mentioned that we should avoid such contact even friendly you could get shot anytime.

But my dad who served in 1975 told me how he developed a friendship with a Turk who even brought him some bananas from Turkey. They would exchange cigarettes thru the UN and they put in a frog once in the pack for laughs.

But the Turkish guy (who didnt know what Cyprus even was before the war) got snitched by a TC and apparently he got beat really hard by his commanders.
