Wenn die Demokraten den Kongress zurückerobern, gibt es laut Platner „überzeugende Argumente“ für die Amtsenthebung von „mindestens zwei“ Richtern des Obersten Gerichtshofs

  1. One of them is Clarence Thomas, the bribery guy, and the other…I think it’s Samuel Alito, but Brett Kavanaugh is also a possibility.

    the actual quote

    >Platner said that „if we held Supreme Court justices to the same standards that we held federal judges, there is a compelling case for the impeachment and removal of at least two.“

a fair bit different than the headline implies.

This level of rhetoric should be the bare goddamn minimum for anyone running for elected office in the Democratic party in 2028.

Why just two? Why not all the ones who lied about Roe v. Wade being established precedent?

Justice Kavanaugh blatantly lied during his confirmation hearing. He was asked what the legal drinking age was while he was in a senior in high school, and he said eighteen. It was twenty-one.

One could say that was a simple mistake, or poor recollection, but he was the treasurer for the Keg City Club. Drinking was a huge part of his social life, if not all of his social life.

Even an insignificant lie is a lie, especially while given under oath and being considered for one of the most powerful appointments in the nation.

You know their decision beforehand based on who brings the case. That shit has to stop. For all of them, but Thomas and Alito have abdicated their duty for partisanship.

Trump will now demand this of congress for Sotomayor.

Throw all six of them out. I can find at least a half a dozen rulings from each of them that directly violate the plain wording of constitutional provisions or statutes. They can’t be left on the bench to continue pushing their project forward and act as a functional veto for anything they personally (or their billionaire friends/owners) don’t like.

Anything less than a full scale Nuremberg-style reckoning with every complicit government official would be dereliction of duty.

The one and only time a Supreme Court Justice was ever impeached, it was my ancestor Samuel (de)Chase.

    He was not removed.

The Senate will not vote to remove. Sure, a majority of Americans may in fact want Trump *and* a couple SCOTUS justices impeached and *removed*, but they keep voting for **Senators** that outright ***refuse*** to do either. The House has been the only entity that’s ever been willing to have its part of the impeachment process **actually** be fulfilled during times where it’s rationally expected to do so.

The entire process of impeachment, including removal, has never worked in-full on any President or SCOTUS justice.

I am ALL for the obviously-needed impeachment and removal of SCOTUS justices that are clearly-evil and pieces of actual-shit, but….temper expectations even IF Democrats miraculously win the Senate as well.

Even if this guy is all talk, if he gets elected it pushes the overton window in the proper direction in a serious way.

I will vote for anyone who promises to impeach and prosecute the criminals in this administration.

  12. ClassicHando on

I can deal with most of them, agree with some of them, and think three of them can get fucked legally

  13. ennuiinmotion on

Weirdly enough the court is the most popular branch of government. As much as I think they’re political hacks and corrupt this might not be something worth spending capital on.

  14. ButterRollercoaster on

There’s a compelling case, but not compelling enough to win over 67 Senators unless they’re all Democrats. That’s a tall order for the voters. We should try.

  15. Let’s not say it too loud, or they’ll resign before election day to get new SC losers on the bench.

  16. Snr_Lothario on

IIRC, Thomas is vulnerable to charges from Virginia for undeclared income, which may be similar in outcome for him as it was for Agnew.

  17. theumpteendeity on

So… Question let’s say Justices‘ are actually impeached. Wouldn’t Trump just replace them with more sycophants?

  18. Perhaps the Dems could learn to stop being so shifty and simply say what they think? Voters ended up trusting Trump more in many cases even though he lies like breathes because he wasn’t being guarded and convoluted when he spoke.

Most Dems come across as lying jackasses because they’re always afraid of offending some group so they’re carefully chosen responses seem fake and make them seem like they’re hiding something.

I doubt most will learn this lesson because I keep hearing bullshit talk about returning to normal which means they still don’t realize that this is the new normal.

Adapt to the times or lose!

Do it after dems take presidency. Don’t need the orange turd putting in some 21 yo sycophant that will stay on for the next 60 years.

I want him to be genuine so bad.

I want the man that worked for Blackrock, got a Nazi tat, has no voting record, and posted gross things online to be genuinely progressive so bad.

    😅😅

  21. Upstairs-Egg on

Everyone that enabled Trump needs to be on trial. No one will ever trust this country again unless the whole batch is thrown out and we go after every criminal that propped Trump up.

  22. What a load of crap. The Corporate Democrats in Name Only will do NOTHING, folks. Like they did under Biden. Nothing.

Ignoring the fact that they still won’t have the majorities needed to convict, the 1% own them and the corrupt justices and the entire rest of the US government now.

Why would the 1% want their trusted bought and paid for stooges to get rid of the trusted bought and paid for stooges?

  23. SundayJeffrey on

So uhm if Dems impeach two conservative justices, Trump will just replace them with two younger conservative justices.

  24. Nobody is going to be removed from office unless the Republicans go along which will NEVER happen. They deserve it but it is an absolute waste of time and money to impeach anyone.

  25. This is the energy we need. They aren’t immune to prosecution for corruption either, perp walk Alito like the little nazi bitch he is.

This is why I like lawyers as politicians; they know wtf they’re talking about when it comes to matters of law. I don’t like it when people who don’t understand the law delve into politics because so much of their job is going to require a thorough knowledge of legal matters.

And as much as I want the Democratic party candidate to win in Maine, I don’t think he knows wtf he’s talking about.
