    1. I said it for decades, sooner or later there will come a generation who will just say no to internet.

Im getting to this point, nothing feels real or you have to think about it at least and everything i did like i feel like I’ve completed, I literally use it for about 4 websites. Getting stuck in algos also doesnt help either

    3. The fun has been sucked out of it. It was fun when it felt like a genuine space for real people to connect, but those days are long gone. The online safety act has probably contributed towards this decline in use too, as well as the amount of AI slop that you simply can’t avoid.

Once you opt out of social media and examine its addictive properties you’ll realize there’s nothing fun or unique to it anymore.

It was fun when it was what it was. Now there’s so many attempts at getting you addicted to something, stealing your data, trying to remove the anonymity. The internet turned into Las Vegas imo. Looks really good from a distance but once you get there, it’s just a bunch of overpriced hot garbage and everything is some sort of „trap“ to suck you in. All about profits, all about getting you hooked. None of it is real or genuine.

I think generally, something can be too „manufactured“. Very easily.

Social media and AI ushered the death of online authenticity and trust, it had been enshittifying for a while but those things really put the nail in the coffin.

The question tech giants should be asking is not how can we get people to use AI, but how can we get people to trust the internet again.

As somebody who lived in America for ten years and now lives back in the UK it’s hard to explain just how American the Internet feels. Probably because there are just so many more of you than there are of us, but a lot of what’s online is very America-focused, I generally find the internet less helpful or useful over here these days.

    8. Almost my entire Internet experience nowadays is on maybe 3 social media sites and YouTube, and they’re all worse than they were a year ago.

It’s starting to feel like a cage.

My last job was writing blogs that only Google bots read in order to extract it for AI search results. Eerie stuff.

AI has sucked dry the whole internet. Every site is struggling now because the traffic has vaporized and most people already find what they are looking for in the AI search, that stole the info. So it is no longer a sustainable business to run a site. Soon the the web will be a dead place.

    11. How are you meant to ‚explore the internet‘?

Any search you do is 80% AI created bullshit and the other 20% is trying to sell you something.

Advertising had never advanced from screeching at you like a toddler having a tantrum over broccoli.

Everything is steadily homogenising into shit.

There’s no way to find anything interesting. Fuck, even Reddit has decided you don’t need to mooch subs you haven’t seen before by getting rid of All.

not so much the internet as much the rampant authoritarian takeover of it that happening and no just the British but most people with access to the internet dont loke this change

I wish it wasn’t winter 6+ months here. Its easy to get caught up with scrolling or gaming when its way too cold to go outside.

The internet is a spoiler, someone is always lurking to spoiler your favorite show, even with a single image meme.

**Hardly** surprised. To use their lingo (a little): The government is inserting themselves bloody everywhere.

Recently deleted threads, twitter, blsky, instagram, facebook. Only have whatsapp because others wont switch and Im not a hermit, keeping reddit for now but considering deleting it as well as the state of discourse on here has devolved in to toxic one upmanship regardless of the topic.

Already feel happier and mentally I feel like there is a lot more time in the day.

I’m so tired of having to wade through slop designed to ragebait to get to some actual content.

I’m finding I have to mute/block a sub more and more often. Most of the default/main subs are corporate cesspools. I think I only really use it for some movie news/discussion and a couple of hobbies. Gaming is something I’m feeling almost perpetually burnt out on but it’s not just burn out, the industry is a huge victim of enshittification and predatory practices. Nothing exciting or interesting about a game that’s flavor of the week by design and riddled with poor craftmanship and no actual plan of being finished.

Instagram has some funny reels but its really just ads for the most part. Don’t really care for other platforms.

I’d be totally fine if the internet died tomorrow. The only thing I’d miss is Red Letter Media.

    19. Cookies, pay to view, endless obstructive ads, AI slop, clickbait crap and shortform content you’ll forget you saw 5 seconds after it’s over. = Adding ID to everything might push people away even faster. Probably a good thing tbh

It became too commercialised. Everything is about getting clicks and views to chase ad revenue, rather than whatever the website is supposed to be about. There’s no caring about your own little community anymore because it’s expensive to run a site and giving a shot doesn’t keep the lights on. Don’t even want to get into the hordes of bots arguing with each other to influence public opinion for whatever purpose, or how everyone is angry about everything because it’s more profitable for social media companies.

I miss 2000’s internet so much.

    21. online since ’95 and yeah. It’s not what it was.

It’s all very corporate now. No variety. Just a handful of sites getting worse and being increasingly evil.

It still has amazing uses, but things feel very walled-off and priced.

I can totally see the net fracturing for some countries, and maybe we can then get a federated remake?

I dunno. Just sick of shareholders and advertisers ruining everything.
