  1. > “I paid off my student loans like three months into ‘The Pitt,’ and that was a really profound moment because I thought I was gonna die with it,” Ball said through tears. “It’s a huge burden to carry, and a lot of people carry it. I was $80,000 in debt and I had been through a series of failed relationships where my financial insecurity was a real problem. I had just thought that was going to be my life forever, and that is a really heavy thing to live with.”

    > Ball added, “Paying off those student loans and getting back to zero, I remember being like, ‘Man, if this show works, great. If it doesn’t work, they can’t take that away from me. I am out of debt.’ No take-backsies on that.”

I went to college in the 80s. My student loans were manageable, and I paid them off in the first couple of years after graduating. That said, I would love it if college were free to all. Our country and economy would benefit greatly if our citizens were better educated.

  3. Nice of him to acknowledge that and be open about it. There are millions dealing with what seems like insurmountable debt and for him to say, I was there too, I was scared and felt stuck, and feel lucky for the opportunity I was given, is humble and grounded.

Gotta presume the debt was from his Yale MFA, cause nobody from Summerfield NC is going into debt going to school down the road at UNCG.

Looking at the way some Americans vote, free university or at least heavily subsidised would be of great benefit to the entire human civilisation.

As someone that was in almost the exact same position debt-wise this is incredibly relatable. Hitting zero was one of the biggest reliefs of my life up to this point.

Good on him, but didn’t realize he went to Yale. I mean yeah you’re gonna take on a little debt bro.
