    1. I don’t get how they are fighting this?

      >Wildlands League, Environmental Defence Canada, Friends of the Earth Canada and Democracy Watch allege Ontario’s special economic zone **law** wrongly abdicates power from the legislature and gives it to cabinet, thereby violating the Constitution.

Uh, if it is a ‚law‘ it is by definition coming from the power of the legislature who have legislated the law into.. the law. It’s not really ‚abdicating‘ power anymore than legislators ‚abdicating,‘ say, policing powers to cops instead of having legislators pull over folks and write them speeding tickets. The legislature can adjust or delegate things if they pass the law. If you don’t like it, then you change the law.

These groups are better off trying to get some sort of movement to make municipalities have more power or change the law(s) that govern them as right now provinces can easily legally run roughshod over them with 0 consequence due to their status.

Doesn’t matter because they will just use the notwithstanding clause if need be. Almost all court challenges against the Ford government have been de facto rendered moot.
